I found this on Yahoo's photospread of stars who have lost weight:

"Russell Crowe gained 63 lb. for the 2008 movie "Body of Lies" but then had a tough time getting all that weight off. Recently he got himself on a grueling health regime that involved 105 days of training and a diet restricted to 2,400 calories a day. "If i stop exercising my body tries 2 return 2 its heaviest weight," he tweeted to a fan"

How is 2,400 calories a day considered RESTRICTED in any way, shape or form???

for a guy his size that would be right... i'm at around 2120 to lose weight lol for me to maintain i'd have to eat about 3100 so tht would be considered restricted

He's pretty tall... and if he's active, he would need to eat a lot of calories. Makes sense.

It is restricted for someone wanting to lose weight in a proper and healthy way.

Basically any amount of calories that is between your BMR and maintenance weight is technically a restriction.

For someone like me who is 5ft 7in and weighs 75kg, 1800cal is the lowest I'd ever eat before exercise and I consider that a restricted diet.
  • Im assuming "grueling" means that he will be doing a large amount of exercise. For a tall male of his size with the exercise he is doing that is restrictive. It makes perfect sense.

Somedays I eat 2200 calories because of all I workout and still lose a pound a week. Am i not on a restricted diet either?

My husband is on MFP with me and he's allocated 2,400 Cals a day, whereas I'm allocated 1,400 a day. I always get jealous of all of him.

Look at some of the men's diaries, they're bigger (in stature) and therefore require more fuel. A 6'4" man I would totally expect to require a good deal more calories than I do at 5'4", and if he's exercising that really is a restriction. For example, hubs base is 1890 (he's just under 6') and he generally burns 1200 per workout . . . that's a 3000 calorie allowance, so 2400 would be a 600 calorie net. KWIM?

I'm 5' tall and on long run days, (grueling workouts for sure) my calorie goal is well over 2000.
