Help for chronic pain sufferers

I have a chronic pain disorder that affects my large muscles (arms and legs mostly) making exercise difficult and painful. So far about all I can manage is walking which is helping. As I am losing weight I have noticed that I have NO muscle tone at all! I am eager to hear if anyone has any tips on toning that would be low/no impact.

have you tried swimming, water aerobics, or just walking in the water?
the resistance is great & yet your weightless, which makes it easier to move.

Try pilates, starting at a easy pace. I have Denise Austin's DVD & it was quite hard at first, but I took my time & definitely feel a difference. I still have pain, but it's better than before. (I have fibromyalgia).
