The movie quote thread and a song on my slacker radio made me think of this one.

Cause you're the type of guy that don't know the time
Swearin up and down, "That girl's all mine"
I'm the type of guy to let you keep believin it
Go 'head to work, while I defrost it, and season it

What are some of your favorites?

As far as lyrics related to working out and losing weight, I have to go with Pat Benetar, because I'm feeling "All Fired Up" these days :drinker:

Livin' with my eyes closed, goin' day to day
I never knew the difference, I never cared either way
Lookin' for a reason, searchin' for a sign
Reachin' out with both hands, I gotta feel the kick inside

    Chorus (All Fired Up)
Now I believe there comes a time
When everything just falls in line
We live an' learn from our mistakes
The deepest cuts are healed by faith

Ain't nobody livin', in a perfect world
Everybody's out there, cryin' to be heard
Now I got a new fire, burnin' in my eyes
Lightin' up the darkness, movin' like a meteorite

Beyonce "Best Thing I Never Had"

What goes around comes back around (hey my baby)
What goes around comes back around (hey my baby)
I say what goes around comes back around (hey my baby)
What goes around comes back around...

    There was a time
I thought, that you did everything right
    No lies, no wrong
Boy I must've been out of my mind
So when I think of the time that I almost loved you
You showed your *kitten* and I, I saw the real you

    Thank God you blew it
I thank God I dodged the bullet
    I'm so over you
    So baby good lookin' out

    [Chorus:]
    I wanted you bad
    I'm so through with that
Cause honestly you turned out to be the (best thing I never had)
You turned out to be the (best thing I never had)
And I'm gon' always be the (best thing you never had)
Oh yeah, I bet it sucks to be you right now

    So sad, you're hurt
Boo hoo, oh, did you expect me to care?
    You don't deserve my tears
    I guess that's why they ain't there
When I think that there was a time that I almost loved you
You showed your *kitten* and baby yes I saw the real you
  • my fav bit is marked with >>><<<

Don't whisper love and dream of wedding bells
Don't do all the talking, let love speak up itself
    Let love speak up itself

So wehn you feel a little tatty and unhappy with your face
Let it breathe into us and put you back in place
Let it breathe, let it breathe
    >>>>>From the day it came into us till the day it wants to leave
For it will, it will go
And it will not say godbye just like it didn't say hello
There will not be a send-off, a funeral or mass
Just a pathetic little vodka from a dirty little glass<<<<
    'To the world's greatest mum
    >From the oldest swinger in town'

    Let love speak up itself
    Let love speak up itself
Let it rise up in the morning and take us for that walk
Let it do the talking when we're too tired to talk
When we're too tired to talk

And when you feel unhappy that I'm not the one I was
Let love rot inside and let love palm you off
Let it rot, let it rot
Lite it take your feelings and tie them in a knot
In a knot, in a knot
Let it take your feelings and tie them in a knot
Hang them from a cleaver and say 'Look what we've got
A man and a woman and guess what they forgot'
    'To the world's greatest mum
    >From the oldest swinger in town'

    Let love speak up itself

You find out who you're friends are
    Somebody's gonna drop everything
Run out and crank up their car
Hit the gas get there fast
Never stop to think 'what's in it for me' or 'it's way too far'
They just show on up with their big old heart
You find out who you're friends are

I am a new day rising
    I’m a brand new sky
To hang the stars upon tonight
    I am a little divided
Do I stay or run away
    And leave it all behind?

It’s times like these you learn to live again
It’s times like these you give and give again
It’s times like these you learn to love again
It’s times like these time and time again

    and

you can spend your time alone, redigesting past regrets, oh
or you can come to terms and realize
you're the only one who can't forgive yourself, oh
makes much more sense to live in the present tense
have you ideas on how this life ends?
checked your hands and studied the lines
have you the belief that the road ahead ascends off into the light?
seems that needlessly it's getting harder
to find an approach and a way to live
are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?
you can spend your time alone redigesting past regrets, oh
or you can come to terms and realize
you're the only one who can forgive yourself, oh
makes much more sense to live in the present tense

these two songs have gotten me through a lot of life

"You're just a cage, girl, if you kill the bird..."
  • this is one of my favorites by jon foreman. i find it very touching, as it's a ballad. We need to look past what our physical eyes can see and stop judging people.

She yells, "if you were homeless
Sure as hell you'd be drunk
Or high or trying to get there
    Or begging for junk
    When people dont want you
They just throw you money for beer."

    Her name was November
She went by Autumn or Fall
    It was seven long years
    Since the Autumn when all
    Of her nightmares grew fingers
And all of her dreams grew a tear

    She's somebody's baby
    Somebody's baby girl
    She's somebody's baby
    Somebody's baby girl
    And she's somebody's baby still

She screams, "Well if you've never
Gone at it alone, well then go ahead
You better throw the first stone
    You got one lonely stoner
Waiting to bring to her knees"

    She dreams about heaven
    Remembering hell
    As a nightmare she visits
    And knows all too well
    Every now and again
When she's sober she brushes her teeth

    She's somebody's baby...

    Today was her birthday
    Strangely enough
When the cops found her body
At the foot of the bluff
    The annonymous caller this morning
    Tipped off the police

    They got her I.D
    From her dental remains
    The same fillings intact
    The same nicotine stains
The birth and the death were both over
    With no one to grieve

    She's somebody's baby...
    Somebody's baby, still
    She's somebody's baby,
    Somebody's baby girl
    And she's somebody's baby still
  • and then there's one by The Darkness that just makes me laugh... "Get your hands offa my woman, Mother F-er..." But more than the lyric, I think it's the falsetto that kills me  They just rock.

My favorite would be lyrics in Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd:

We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year. Running over the same ol' ground; what have we found? The same o fears.

Second would be the lyrics in Shed Some Light by Shinedown.

The Floyd song is most enjoyable after a few beers :drinker:
  • "Dream of better lives, the kind which never hates" -Melt With You
"I'm just a teenage dirtbag baby" -Wheatus
  • this is the best love song ever... from death cab for cutie. Listened to it for a cool down this morning.

Love of mine some day you will die
But I'll be close behind; I'll follow you into the dark
No blinding light or tunnels to gates of white
Just our hands clasped so tight
Waiting for the hint of a spark
    If Heaven and Hell decide
    That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the NOs on their vacancy signs
If there's no one beside you
    When your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark

In Catholic school as vicious as Roman rule
I got my knuckles bruised by a lady in black
And I held my tongue as she told me "Son fear is the heart of love"
    So I never went back

You and me have seen everything to see
    From Bangkok to Calgary
And the soles of your shoes are all worn down
The time for sleep is now It's nothing to cry about 'cause we'll hold each other soon
    In the blackest of rooms

    If Heaven and Hell decide
That they both are satisfied, Illuminate the No's on their vacancy signs
If there's no one beside you when your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark

And I wasn't there when you were happy
I wasn't there when you were down
I didn't mean to miss your birthday, baby
I wish I'd seen you blow those candles out

Just heard this one in the car with my 6 year old daughter. As I am trying to jam out and sing the song, she chimes in that if a boy forgot her birthday she would dump him too. No doubt she is going to cause me plenty of gray hairs as she gets older.

Look in the skies for God, what you see besides the smog
is broken dreams flying away on the wings of the obscene
Thoughts that people put in the air
Places where you could get murdered over a glare
    But everything is fair
It's a paradox we call reality
So keepin it real will make you casualty of abnormal normality
Killers Born Naturally like, Mickey and Mallory
Not knowing the ways'll get you capped like an NBA salary
Some cats be emceeing to illustrate what we be seeing
Hard to be a spiritual being when *kitten* is shakin what you believe in
For trees to grow in Brooklyn, seeds need to be planted
I'm asking if y'all feel me AND THE CROWD LEFT ME STRANDED

    Wake.. from your sleep
    The drying of your tears
    Today we escape, we escape

    Pack.. and get dressed
    Before your father hears us
    Before all hell breaks loose

    Breathe, keep breathing
    Don't lose your nerve
    Breathe, keep breathing
    I can't do this alone

The one line that STILL sticks in my head, even now when it's not relevant, although it maybe in the future...

Who else, probably UK only, remembers Climie Fisher "Love changes everything"

    "I wondered was i destined..
    ...to spend my life alone..."

I asked myself that soooo many times during my early 20s...

    I've got this great idea
why don't we pitch it to the
    Franklin fcking Mint
    Fine pewter portraits of
General Apathy and Major Boredom singing
    Whatever and ever amen.
    Oh well, maybe not
    I'll try again
this should cheer you up for sure
see I've got your old I.D.
and you're all dressed up like the Cure

    Will you never rest
    fighting the battle
    of who could care less
    unearned unhappiness
    you're my hero I confess

And, ofc, pretty much all of Savage Garden - "Affirmation".

I believe the sun should never set upon an argument
I believe we place our happiness in other people's hands
I believe that junk food tastes so good because it's bad for you
I believe your parents did the best job they knew how to do
I believe that beauty magazines promote low self esteem
I believe I'm loved when I'm completely by myself alone

I believe in Karma what you give is what you get returned
I believe you can't appreciate real love 'til you've been burned
I believe the grass is no more greener on the other side
I believe you don't know what you've got until you say goodbye

I believe you can't control or choose your sexuality
I believe that trust is more important than monogamy
I believe your most attractive features are your heart and soul
I believe that family is worth more than money or gold
I believe the struggle for financial freedom is unfair
I believe the only ones who disagree are millionaires

I believe in Karma what you give is what you get returned
I believe you can't appreciate real love 'til you've been burned
I believe the grass is no more greener on the other side
I believe you don't know what you've got until you say goodbye

I believe forgiveness is the key to your unhappiness
I believe that wedded bliss negates the need to be undressed
I believe that God does not endorse tv evangelists
I believe in love surviving death into eternity...

Soo much of this i agree with! :D

Oh, Angie, don't you weep, all your kisses still taste sweet
I hate that sadness in your eyes
But Angie, Angie, ain't it time we said good-bye?
With no loving in our souls and no money in our coats
    You can't say we're satisfied
But Angie, I still love you, baby
    Ev'rywhere I look I see your eyes
There ain't a woman that comes close to you
