I would like some advice about what is the best overall plan to follow. A low fat diet or low carb? It seems like I always have tons of carbs and hundreds of calories left yet I meet my fat for the day. I don't know how to balance it out. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

It would be helpful if we could see your food diary to see what you're eating so we can make suggestions to help you out!

It takes time. Try to enter foods before you eat them. When you plan your day ahead it is easier to keep it all in balance. If you find you are always over in protein. Raise your protein % in goals and save changes. It will lower your carbs for the day. You have to adjust it to the way you eat. If you try to change the types of food you normally eat you will not stick to it. Portion control is usually enough.

there really is no best overall plan, it's more of what makes you feel best and can adhere to. the most important thing is a caloric deficit, then you can play around with macros to see what you work best on. i would get a decent amount of protein everyday and then play around with your fat and cho macros

If you get in plenty of fruits, veggies, lean protein and grains, you should be able to hit your goals. You will have to determine how you want to eat for you, not based on me. I prefer higher protein, higher fat, lower carb most of the time, but that may not work for you.

You will likely get responses form both camps - I am of the everything in moderation camp, though admittedly I do aim to get the right kinds of carbs and fats and there are good and bad kinds...Most of my carbs come from whole grains, fruits and veggies. I tend to steer clear of refined and processed carbs (think white bread, sugar, etc.) and pick whole grain foods with high fiber content (most nutritional guidelines suggest getting 20 g of fiber a day).

With respect to fat - again I tend to seek out unsaturated or monosaturated fats over saturated fats - for example olive oil over butter.
