Right now, after I eat dinner (the other half of Subway sandwich), I will have a total of 990 calories for the day. At the moment, I really just do not feel hungry. I forced things yesterday because I didn't feel like eating. (Not sure why the loss of appetite but not complaining just yet unless it isn't something temporary) Is is necessary to eat all the calories even when not hungry??? Or is it just something to not make a habit of doing?

If I'm not hungry, I don't force myself into eating anymore. As long as I am close to 1200 I figure I'm okay. Doing it this way has worked for me!! Good luck!

    In one word, YES!

Your body needs a minimum to function and if you deprive it from the minimum it will enter a protection mode commonly reffered as starvation mode. One day shouldn't cause problems but over extended periods of time can be detrimental in many ways and stop your weight loss.

Im in the same boat, I'm having a hard time eating all my calories and from what I'm reading it may be because i have been running more apparently that can curb your appetite, I've NEVER experience this. Problem is I have also stopped losing pounds and I know it is because I need to eat more. So what i have been doing is adding back stuff that's not reduced fat or anywhere I learned to cut corners to save calories I put back in, such as Milk - I'll get 2% now instead of 1% or almond milk on my cereal, and use butter instead of light smart balance when i'm cooking, or full fat yogurt, cheese, sour cream, mayo ect. That bumps your calories up enough that you barely notice because you aren't ACTUALLY having to EAT more. I've found that MUCH easier than trying to ad another 100-300 calories in FOOD food. Just add a little more flavor :)

I only drink water at this point for the most part, so even a lemonade will help get some more calories in. its important to try and get at least 1200 calories a day.
    good luck!!!

  • Don't worry about it. I think a lot of people make it up naturally, a low day here and a high day there. If you're full, you're full.
  • Most of the time, if I don't eat enough one day (and I mean a huge amount, like what you have left), then I spend the next day or two feeling famished. If you're not that hungry, don't stuff yourself full. But at least make sure you meet all your requirements for the day - things like iron, calcium, vitamin A and C. That's my general rule for eating when you don't feel hungry, and I think it's for the best.

Another way to go about it is to drink liquid calories. I often wake up thirsty, but not hungry. So I make hot cocoa, with soy milk and unsweetened cocoa powder. It's gives me my calcium and iron, and gives me the energy I need.

900 is a pretty big deficit!! Try to make it a smaller one, but it shouldn't hurt to be short for just one day out of many.

1200 - 460 cals (footlong veggie sub, the lightest sub they have) = 740 therefore how do you have 900+ left over for the day?

If you are only eating a footlong sub a day you are severely undereating not to mention eating a significant amount of sodium daily which overtime will lead to high blood pressure not to mention water retention so much so you may never see a drop on the scale.

Even Jarred while on the diet had fruits and vegetables on top of his 1.5 subs a day. Please start eating some non processed foods.

I wish I liked chocolate or milk....LOL! I don't like either all too well. But I might take the advice and at least drink a Sugar Free Carnation instant breakfast drink when I get home if I am still not hungry.

1200 isn't a magic number... It will vary depending on your weight, metabolism, and activity level. We don't know you personally, so we're all making guesses, really. Maybe try to get in a bit more protein, but if you're eating 1000 and feel full and satisfied, I don't think it's the end of the world. But talk to your doc if you are concerned with the lack of appetite, especially if it's not a typical thing for you.

I think she meant that she eats 990 total... at least, that's how I read it.

NOOOOO...OOPS ..... must have typed it wrong. Mine is set for 1500 calories because of my current weight and because I hurt my ankle so set it to sedentary activity. It is meant that I have taken in those calories. Not what I have left. I am not worried about hitting the 1500. But I guess that is why I am wondering if I definately need to hit at least 1200. ( I hope that makes sense)

Ah... I think you're right "I WILL have" not have left. Ok then my recommendation is #1, how tall are you? If you are very petite 1000 cals a day may not be that unrealistic. Other than that, try to stick to 1200 a day on most days. The days you are under can help you enjoy a cheat meal Saturday night and you won’t feel guilty.

It has only been over the last two days (today and yesterday....and yes not common, but I do know tis the season to not feel 100%). I do have a dr appt set so that is why I am even less concerned. I just dont wanna make things worse.

1200 is an arbitrary number that has no significance in the real world. Everyone's metabolism is different. Everyone's body requires different numbers of calories to function. Generally speaking, your body will speak to you. If you're not eating enough, you'll feel hungry. If you feel hungry, you should eat more. If you're eating enough, you won't feel hungry.

I wouldn't worry about it, then. That's good that you're seeing your doc soon, maybe he/she will have an idea of what's a good caloric goal for you.

Generally speaking, the occasional mess-up (whether it's too high or too low) is not a huge issue... just don't make it a consistent pattern. :)

see you you feel. Sometimes your body needs more or less food depending on the day. You aren't going to starve I'm sure... One day will be alright, however if you do this every day or consistently it might be a problem.
You'll probably make up for it at another point in the week or you might have been over a day or two ago... Zig Zagging sometimes works better for some people than being consistent.
