Can you really have too much fiber? Almost every day I go way over the fiber that mfp tells me I should get. What is the problem with fiber? Anything?

If you have too much it can interfere with the absorption of some micronutrients (and potentially cause some unpleasant symptoms but that depends on the individual). But for the malabsorption probably talking about 45g or more...

Fiber is excellent for you! It helps clean out your pipes, including cleaning out the cholestrol form your arteries! It helps keep you regular and helps prevent colon cancer. Go for it . Most Americans do not get enough fiber. I add fiber like flax seed etc to my food.

I have gone through phases where I was getting as much as 45g a day with no problems. But make sure you increase/decrease slowly and drink plenty of water. Too much + no water = constipation. Too much = constipation or diarrhea. If you poop your pants... you've eaten too much fiber.

The tolerance varies from person to person, but when I have had too much, I am very unpopular at work.

When I have too much, the dog gets blamed for unspeakable things. And my regular bathtub becomes a jacuzzi tub.

From my research, what I've read and what I was told when I was on Weight Watchers many years ago, MFP actually has their fiber set too low. You should have 20-35 grams of fiber a day. You can have too much, but you have to go over 50 grams a day for that. Too much can interfere with vitamin absorption and in extreme cases cause a blockage.
