Hello all,
I am a carpenter and need to eat lunch out on the job site. Often no power, table ect.... I have been packing sandwiches but hate to get up and make them at 4 am before the gym (ok my awesome wife gets up and makes them). But would like to have some things that could be prepped before bed so I could just grab and go. I try to have some carbs and protein and like to be less then 500 cal. So what do you do, can you help?
Tired of sandwiches,
Jake

You could stick healthy snacks in ziplocs and grab a few every morning, that way you can mix and match. Jerky, almonds, dried fruits, granola bars, etc. Those would be in individual bags, obviously, lol. So your jerky isn't mixed with whatever else you bring. Hope that makes sense. Fresh fruit is easy to grab.
If you have a cooler, you could do string cheese and boiled eggs as well. Veggies with ranch dip or hummus would be yummy too.0 -
Get yourself a insultated lunch bag, I got mine at Albertsons and its the big one made for hot or cold (actually its supposed to be a grocery shopping bag but its big so I can fit my lunch and dinner in it) and that will open your world up to all sorts of options :-) also you (or your wife) can prepare the meals in the night and grab in the AM and throw in your bag with a ice pack and your set.
Some of my fave. lunch options-
Tuna ( I make mine with lots of veggies thrown in and olive oil mayo) with crackers
Salads (all kinds! pasta salads, green salads, chicken salad, tuna salad)
Tacos! (I bring the corn tortillas, veggies and beans in seperate container and than throw it all together for lunch time)
Leftovers! Anything you can heat up in the morn. and put in this bag will stay warm till lunch, Ive brought hamburgers, steak, chicken anything
Good Luck :-) I also am addicted to eating hard boiled eggs as a snack, no electrictiy required0 -
LOL Jake, I saw the end of the post and couldn't stop laughing. Tired of sandwiches is right! Maybe we should invest in a type of thermos that I could pack U some soups, stews or chili that I could heat up and pack. Thanks to the ideas up top! We already do the ziploc hard boiled eggs and baby carrots, salads with dressings on the side. Another lady said pasta salads if U like those I could prepare containers the night before. Well have a good work out!0

Some great ideas! Especially the ones with the tuna salad and veggies. I know, I got sick of sandwiches too, but I realized ways to make them taste better. I noticed I wuld be getting whole wheat type breads just because they are healthy, but didn't enjoy them. Have you tried whole wheat white? Kinda like the best of both worlds. Or healthy multigrain with a touch of honey is good.
I also love vegetables in my sandwiches. I pile high with lettuce, cucumbers, sprouts, etc. I ate one at a sandwich shop recently, and paid a lot, when I realized I could make it at home: bread, lettuce, spourts, turkey, cranberry sauce, mayo. (Talk abuot a yummy sandwich!)
I hope this is helpful.0
