Staring the process over

Hello!

So about a year or so ago I used MFP with great success and lost over 30 lbs. Unfortunately, between house-hunting, a move, and general distractions I let it go, stopped working out, and ate whatever I felt like. Perhaps not surprisingly, I have gained all the weight back plus a little extra. I feel like I'm finally ready to start over and have been doing pretty well this week.

What I'm worried about is getting trapped in an up/down cycle, being scared that if I work so hard to lose weight again, I'll just fall off and again it back?

Is anyone else in this position? Or, has anyone else been in this position and had more luck the second time around?

Any words of wisdom are appreciated. :)

Try not to think of it as a diet/exercise program with a final goal of being a certain weight. Think of it as a change in lifestyle and about living healthy from now on. The only thing that should change when you reach your goal is switching from diet calories to maintenance. Then there is no up/down pattern to happen. Decide you're just living better now. Good luck!

    Hi,

Well I didn't have as much as you to lose but at the beginning of this year I was on MFP and I went from 52kg to 47kg (you can convert it into pounds, i'm sick of doing it! haha) and then my birthday came and easter came and I put it all back on and it was sad :(

But then now I am back and I have lost 2kgs which is happy :) The second time is going good, I know more, I'm more relaxed about recording the calories (not so obessive) and I'm not so obesessive about always burning 600cals a day. I'm enjoying it more this time and it feels more achieveable because I know I can do it.

In my opinion I am enjoying the second time round because I know so much more now and I know how to get what I want without feeling that I'm depriving myself and I know it's only me who I have to answer to about the way I eat and live and love my body :) hope that helped, feel free to add as a friend for support on doing it a second time.

Thanks for the advice! I'm hoping to be more sucessful this time around and learn from past mistakes. I do find that I'm being less obsessive this time, as Skinimin mentioned.

Here's hoping I can do it again and treat it as more of a lifestyle now.

Btw, congrats on all your success Brettkeogh!!
