  • Just buy the fruits and veggies that you can eat in two days. Or eat frozen veg and fruits they are just as good for you.

I wouldn't suggest canned fruits and veggies as they tend to be packed with sugar and sodium. If you can't buy fresh I have heard that frozen fruits and veggies can be just as nutritious as the real thing but only if they are frozen when they are nice and ripe. Hope this helps!

I also loved canned veggies haha! I like the texture. The reduced-sodium versions are better than the regular, but fresh/frozen are the best. A lot of nutrients leak into the liquid in the canning process (and who drinks the juice? LOL)

well, um, ah maybe the pineapple!!!:blushing:  YUM I usually mix it and a bit of the fruit in cottage cheese...but the pineapple is just simply the natural juice nothing else added:drinker:

I buy some fresh and freeze them if they start to go bad. But I buy mostly frozen fruits and veggies. They are frozen at the peak of ripeness and all of the minerals and vitamins are still in them unlike canned. I wait until my stores have them on sale 10 for 10 and stock up so that they are actually way cheaper per serving than canned. And of course they taste a lot better!

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but fresh fruits and veggies are  SO  much better for you than canned or frozen. Aside from the loss of nutrients, what really gets damaged is the enzymes in the plants. Even cooking can destroy plant enzymes, which are crucial to your health.
Okay, so maybe you can't eat fresh every meal, or even every day, but try to eat fresh as often as you can:
    - A banana on your morning cereal, or in a smoothie
    - A few grapes on the run
    - An apple as a snack, sliced and topped with cinnamon (apples last forever in your fridge)
    - A little lettuce in your sandwich or better yet, a salad
    - Sliced red bell peppers are a fabulous snack, as are cucumber slices
    - Even easier, buy the snack-sized carrots in the produce department
    - Cherry tomatoes are delicious and easy to grab, even when you are busy. They taste better if you don't refrigerate them.

Start small, buy small quantities, and put them where you will see them and reach for them, even when you are in a hurry. Soon you will be like me, going out of your way to hit produce stores that buy local and sell fresh!

I like the frozen fruits and vegetables because I can cook them one serving at a time. I like fresh but I can't go to the store every few days. I have been doing pretty good with red, yellow, orange, green peppers, mushrooms. DH has started eating them this week so that's been a big help!
Apples, bananas and the yummy clementines that are out right now I've been buying fresh. But blueberries, strawberries I get frozen.

Thank you so much this is what I was looking for. I will remember all of this and the 10 for 10 idea I will have to keep an eye on that. I think this next summer Im going to have a little garden of my own so I can freeze some of this myself. Also, all I have to do is go out in the garden and grab something. :drinker: Thanks again.
