Find the Beauty

I am constantly reading how friends on my facebook hate the weather. Nothing is ever good enough. In spring, they hate the mud and rain. In summer, they hate the humidity and heat. In fall, they hate that it's getting colder and all the leaves they have to rake. But the worst, is winter. Oh, the complaints I hear on a daily basis about the snow, cold, dry skin, etc. Am I the only person in the north who enjoys the four seasons?

I see beauty in all the seasons.

I love the spring...it's like the earth is waking up from a deep sleep. Beautiful flowers start popping up and all the lovely birds are back singing their songs. The summer is the best...best for moving and keeping active. Outdoor parties, grills, swimming pools and nature walks are plenty. Life is on the fast track in summer and I love every minute of it. Then comes the much needed fall...to give us a much needed break....to settle us down a bit. Kids go back to school and we're all on a routine now. Walking and hiking is much nicer in the fall...we get a break from the hot summer sun and get up close to the beautiful fall foliage. I read once that the earth gives us one last splash of color before it goes to sleep for the winter. That is so true. Then comes winter. The one everyone hates...but me. I love it. There is nothing more beautiful than to watch huge snowflakes fall outside your window with the fireplace on inside. Looking out by the street lamp post, I will see a shower of snowflakes falling and everything is quiet outside. The silence is deafening. It's so peaceful and beautiful that I can't wait to walk my dogs in the morning. I look forward and embrace each season as they come. I just wish my facebook friends could see the beauty.

This is a lovely post. There is beauty everywhere if you only look closely. Even broken glass in a landfill will sparkle if the light hits it just right.

I wish we truly had four seasons in SE Texas. We get 9 months of hotter than hell and 3 months of everything else. So I would be happy about four seasons.....

I love the four seasons.....I just moved to Miami from Toronto Canada so I am so missing the Fall colors right now. Can't wait to go home for Christmas to see some snow.

Hmmm, in Houston we set record heat days about 20 of the 31 days in August and it was over 100 still this week... I can see the beauty in that if at the beach or pool but not when walking from car to work :)

But as soon as it cools I am buying a new road bike and I am going to hit the parks!

I'm with you on this one, i also can't stand the constant moaning about the weather and am happy just to be able to breath in either the spring blossom, fresh summer air, the autumn morning dew or the crisp winter mist.

I try to see everything in a positive way. Turning 30 has made a huge difference in how I perceive everything.

I'm not happy unless I'm complaining...
  • The year is a circle, just like our lives are. We have seasons of growth, rest, etc. In every age there is beauty. Next time someone is complaining about the 2' of snow that fell, find a picture on line (or take one and upload it) and link to your FB page of moonlit snow on tree branches, the trees' shadows tracing blue patterns across the white blanket.

The Earth has to rest. She gives us beauty in every moment to help us get through the hard times, too.

I don't have a/c in my car, live in Houston and drive 3ish hours every other weekend, twice a weekend with 2 young children. Now THAT's a cool feeling.

I'm with you. In fact, I try to employ this thought process for everything. So I've gone back and begun eating foods I hated before. I find something I like about people I immediately find disagreeable. I try to enjoy something no matter where I am. It just makes my life more pleasant. People have asked if I really mean it when I say that I'm always content - this is how I am.
  • So true Jana, we have all four seasons and now that I am getting older I enjoy them more. I used to be one of those complainers but realized as you did how lucky we are. The snow and being inside by the fire and waving at the kids with my hot cup of coffee as they now have to do all the shoveling! Oh that's just glorious!
  • I've really enjoyed reading everyone's responses. They are all wonderful and I'm glad I'm not the only one who tries to find the beauty in things...

I'm the total polar opposite..... I'm BEYOND HAPPY to be out of a "four seasons" state. I was the complainer, but only about winter because I LOATHE the cold. I may have grown up almost my whole life in the NorthWest, but I NEVER liked the snow (unless driving in it). I am as happy as a clam in my new home in Florida. I LOVE the warm humid weather and roll my eyes at the people who complain about going out in it because they get a little sweaty. So what?! Enjoy your day out in the beauty of this place, sweat a little, then go home and take a shower!!
