When the hunger monster hits!

Hi everyone, just wanted to get some ideas from you.

My worst time of day is from when I get home at 4:30 to bedtime. I try to stay busy cleaning the house, doing errands, etc. But that is when the hunger monster hits and I am so hungry! Any ideas you can share on how to keep this nasty beast away would be greatly appreciated. I try to drink water when I get that feeling of hunger or snack on a sugar free popsicle, but it just doesn't seem to help most of the time!

Thanks!

Do you not eat dinner when you get home?

    Exercise!!!!

Try and do some higher intensity body weight exercises. It helps me in 2 ways. 1.) Its really hard to eat while exercising and 2.)afterwords I don't feel like eating for an hour or two.

Other than that, try celery or even a couple ounces of lean turkey or chicken to tide you over.

Maybe you do really need to eat something? A bit of peanut butter (like a tablespoon) on toast, a serving of almonds, etc? Something with protein to fill you up and give you energy.

If not - distraction, distraction, distraction. Work out, do something that keeps your hands busy, etc.

I'm thinking if you're hungry, then maybe you should go ahead and eat.

To keep from getting hungry between the time I get home and the time I go to bed I tend to eat dinner to keep the hunger monster at bay. Sometimes I will even have a snack in addition to my dinner.

I have a nasty habit of eating when I'm hungry. Maybe you could try that? Usually if I eat a nice, protein packed dinner with some fats I'm ok for the rest of the night. Also, sometimes to keep from getting up in the middle of the night you could drink a glass of milk right before bed.

Are you doing IF? (only reason I can think that you're not eating after 4:30) If so, I recommend having your largest amount of food closest to the end of your feeding window. The few times I did it I made sure that that last meal of the feeding time was also a protein heavy one so that it filled me up longer. I found that I was usually good until around 9:30 or 10 that way. Then it's easier to not succumb to snacking at that hour since it's gonna be closer to bed anyway. I'd just drink extra water and stay distracted. The less bored you are the faster time will go and next thing you know it's bedtime. :)
