Peanut butter questions

Ok, I have 2 questions:

1. I haven't eaten real PB in YEARS. I've been using Better'n Peanut Butter lately, but it's too high in carbs. I LOOOOOVE PB2, but that gets a little pricey. My question is, do you think real PB is worth the extra fat?

2. Better'n PB says that a serving size is 2 T, and there are 14 servings per jar. I measure 1 T of PB accurately and I only get about 7 or 8 servings out of the jar. Does 1 T measured really equal 2 T nutrition wise because it is dense and settles into the measuring spoon?

I personally think the only PB that should be eaten is natural peanut butter - one in which the only ingredient is peanuts...but that's just me.

I agree! I think the more natural you can get, the better. It's more a mentality thing that I have to get past.

Totally worth it. If you buy a natural peanut butter you're getting natural ingredients that your body knows how to process.

Completely worth it. Like everyone said, get the natural. I just tried natural PB for the first time and it's sooooo much better than anything else. The fat in peanuts is monounsaturated and good for you!
  • Any suggestions on brand? PB, cashew, or almond? Crunchy or creamy? So many decisions!!

    Try Smucker's Natural -- it's great.
Also, this is a great way to get your fix without all the calories: http://www.bellplantation.com/

Whatever you get - just be sure to check the ingredients. Seriously - the only ingredient should be peanuts. Hallam's has a good creamy one and so does Smucker's. A lot of "natural" PB still has other ingredients and isn't natural at all...

Personally, I avoid peanuts altogether and use (occasionally) raw almond butter.
I don't know if they still do it, but I know Whole Foods used to let you grind your own nut butters on the spot (picture a slurpee machine, filled with the nut of your choice)

(Or is the word slushee? I've never had one, so I get the real thing mixed up with The Simpson's version)

Personally, I still haven't been able to see why Peanut Butter has gotten such a great wrap in the fitness community. For me, it doesn't make sense calorie wise. Yes it does have a high protein ratio when you look at the size of the serving versus the size number of grams of protein, but calorically speaking, there are plenty of other foods you can eat much more of a variety of other foods for more protein and less calories. 200 cals for two tablespoons of anything is and insane amount of calories for a serving that small when you are only get to eat about 400 calories a meal to stay with in your calorie goal.

PB makes my life a smidgy bit better every day :)

Hehe I know exactly what you're talking about. I think a Whole Foods trip is in the cards for tomorrow

Smart Balance is all natural, and YUMMY. I prefer crunchy personally, but the creamy is great too.

I suppose it depends on what you like and what keeps you feeling full. I don't really eat much peanut butter any more but I can tell you this, I had about 2 tablespoons of extra virgin coconut oil the other morning (~260 calories of all fat). I wasn't hungry at ALL until dinner! There are a lot of foods that would never have lasted me that long in terms of feeling satiated.

Yup, WF still has the nut butter machines. I made some fresh almond butter not to long ago. It's the bomb on a Hershey's bar.
