Everywhere we look and lean we hear the joys of flax seed for the omega 3....is anyone using the ground seed as an additive to their shakes or cereals? or how do you use it?
is it worth it?

I do! I use a tablespoon in my oatmeal every morning, and sometimes add it to my yogurt or other cereal also. Omega-3 oils are so great for you, and flax seed is an easy way to work it into your diet . HTH!0

I add it to oatmeal, smoothies. Use it in baking. You can substitute oil/fat for flax seed meal. The ratio is take out 1 TBL of oil add 3 TBL flax seed meal. No one ever knows it's there!0

I use it on pretty much everything that goes in my mouth. Mixed tropical fruit, cereal, sprinkled on my banana/peanutbutter toast, salads, mixed veggies, sandwich salads (tuna/egg), cereal, oatmeal, smoothies, and it really becomes innocuous after awhile - no real taste unless you're trying to find the taste. It has about 1 g of fiber per tablespoon. I get about 20$ of my fiber for the day from Flax.
Keep in mind when shopping for flax that it must be ground or it passes through unused! Retails for about $2.50 for a lb.0 -
Yes, I use it daily. Usually on my cereal or yogurt. Do you all keep yours in the frig, after opening the box? It is suggested on my box, and didn't know if it was harmful to the flax if not?0

Yes, you must keep it in the fridge in an opaque (not clear) package. It will spoil if left out. HTH!0 -

I have whole and milled seed. The oil is too expensive for my budget right now. :frown: I use the milled flax in smoothies to add fiber and in muffins, too. I think it helps me feel more satiated. The seeds are great in a salad. It takes some time to chew those little things to make sure you get the oils which makes you slow down when you eat.

You can buy the Hodgson's Mill Ground Flax at Super Wal*mart. Check the baking goods aisle, it is less than $2 for a box. I also see it at Kroger/ Meijer in the organic sections but it is cheapest at Wal*mart.0
