OK, I just have to say (it's not an excuse) every time I'm at my parents I over eat! I think it's the environment I was used to growing up-just overeating here. Anyways, my DH and I came to my parents tonight and they ordered pizza. I know that's a bad food for me, I never eat it in moderation. So I was trying to "get my mind right" about it. But when the time came, I wolfed down 3 pieces of Buffalo Chicken pizza at 220 cal a pop!!!! I worked out pretty serious today, but that sure blew it. What are your suggestions for handling difficult situations such as family, trigger environments and trigger foods besides just staying away?

my suggestion is leting your mom know your are trying to change your eating habits and that it would be helpful if she mayb had something more healthy instead of what she did to maybe help you on your road to suces,,,, just a thought...
i tend to eat more at my moms also she is so litle and sometimes i think she doesnt realize that putting out the "bad foods" isnt very helpful.
    goodluck

Been there, done that....then done it again...and again....
Seriously though, for One: Give yourself a break, sometimes you need to indulge, othewise you WILL go insane.
Two: Always try to have a healthy alternative ahead of time, so that you will have the healthy choice staring you in the face. For instance, I always get a thin crust veggie when we order pizza, then everyone around knows it's "my" pizza, and I am less likely to eat a piece of regular. Also, if you are really really serious about avoiding temptation, you need the people around you to be on board too. Make it clear to them that you need their support in making healthy choices and avoiding overeating. Hopefullly this helped! Good Luck!:flowerforyou:

I do the same. Holiday, birthday or just because...I always snack more at my parent's house. I have yet to ask them to make something more healthy, cause she normally does. My problem is it's a weekend visit and we eat out more. 1-2 times a day and of course I don't pick healthy choices. GO figure. :grumble:
  • Try next time to eat a good salad before leaving the house with a slice of bread. This should fill you up so that when you get there you wont feel like eating as much. I know when I go to my moms also I over eat. Ugh but its always so good. I tried this before we go eat at resteraunts and it helps me make better choices and not pick the first thing I am super hungry for.

Does your mom happen to be overweight too?

I just sent my mom the link and insisted she start it with me! Now I just wished she lived closer so we could help each other out ALL the time! :drinker:

Yes, my mom and dad are overweight. Basically everyone in my family is. I sent the link to them too and suggested they try it. They know I'm trying to lose. I think everyone in our family has "talked" about it so much in the past, maybe they don't really take me seriously that this time I'm committed. They'll say stuff like, "I know you're trying to watch it, but..." Another problem is that no one could be around, but when I walk in their door I have the urge to eat, I know where all the snacks are kept and I (without even realizing it) check to see what they have.
