Sorry, feeling silly this morning..
Okay so.. I do Turbo Jam, and from what I gather your suppose to record it like Kickboxing.. Wellll, I don't have a HRM. Prolly not getting one either. Maybe tax time, but doubtful. Anyhoo. For 40 minutes of kickboxing it says I burn 617 calories based on my fat butt. Well I'm not sure that's right. Seems high to me. But if I eat those 617 calories and I'm not really burning that many. Won't I gain weight? What should I do?????????????
Thanks Thanks Thanks...:glasses:

Hello,
I've never done Turbo Jam, but that doesn't really sound that high to me. I have a heart rate monitor and when I used it in my hour long body pump class it told me I burned over 700 calories and when I ran for 20 minutes and then walked for 30 minutes I burned 800 calories. I guess it depends on how much you weigh and what kind of shape you are in.
Hope that helps.0 -
Some of these will help you understand why you need to eat exercise calories, and how to tweak. Some people only eat half their exercise cals back, some eat all. I eat them all because for ME, my metabolism seems to demand it.
Turbojam and kickboxing are very heavy exercise styles and you need to take those seriously. IF I COULD do turbo jam, I would at least eat 2/3s of them back.

Do you really think turbo jam is that heavy of an exercise? I have never done kickboxing so I can't compare the too. I breathe harder through most of the whole thing but it doesn't seem that bad to me. Not like trying to run on the treadmill (hate it!) or anything.0 -
Well, I don't know exactly. I've done TaeBo, which is similar, and I could only get 12 minutes in because it was so intense.
shrug.0 -
Well, I've done kickboxing, and I've done aerobic kickboxing, and they're two entirely different things. Actual kickboxing is much more explosive and powerful and anaerobic than the kickboxing classes, which mimic the movements without the power. I'd probably use the moderate aerobics listed in the exercises.0

See, I've doen TaeBo and HATED every second of it.. TurboJam is more fun, and not as intense, and not near as many kicks.. Don't get me wrong. TJ works my butt literally my gluts were killing me this morning.. lol but its nothing like TaeBo to me.. IMO0 -

See that's what I though! I think I may put it in as that..0 -
It seems high to me. I do spin 2x per week and burn 493cals in 45mins, and it is seriously the most intense workout I have tried.0
-
Also, I am one of those who doesn't eat the exercise cals. If I eat them, I don't lose!0
-
I love Turbo Jam! I agree that the cal count seems a bit high, I think you can make it intense (do you use the weighted gloves, those really up the intensity too!). I would say in 45 min of TJ you probably burn around 400 cals?? Just a guess.
BTW, have you seen Chalene's new workouts, the ChaLean Extreme??? They are AWESOME! I've been using them for 5 weeks now and love them!

I do Turbo Jam sometimes.... for me... doing the 20 minutes video I only burn about 170 calories - 200 if I am REALLY pushing myself.
I would say 400 maybe a little higher if you are REALLY giving it your all.
***Edit: I use a HRM for those numbers.0 -

Ohhhh freaky... you are rubbing off on me. :laugh:0 -
I've never done it before but there is a class at my gym that is aerobic kick boxing and the instructor says you will burn around 400-450 calories an hour for an average size person.
With the calories burned on this site I always take 100 calories off of the info. I use more than one source to figure calories burned.
Either way, you're working it so keep it up! :flowerforyou:0 -

OhOh! The instructer said "AVERAGE PERSON!" YAY! I am average!!!!!0 -

Jess
Cool! 400 and something shows up for aerobic high impact!. So I'm going to go with that. I heard on beach bodies site about the ChaLean Extreme. What are they like? I spent 80 bucks on these videos last spring and I haven't done them enough to loose anything. lol So I'm going to have a hard time convincing my husband to shell out more dough for the Extreme. Maybe after I loose 30lbs?0 -
I am bouncing off the walls to get ChaLean Extreme... but like you I haven't done the TJ videos enough to lose much weight. However, the new program I hear is NOTHING like Turbo Jam... the only similarity is Chalean!
Talk to Jess, she is currently doing them and is a coach so she has the scoop!0 -
For what it's worth, I use my HRM with TJ and burn 740 calories with Cardio Party. I am 5'2 and 138 pounds if that helps.0
