edited October 3 in Health and Weight Loss
I started out on MFP with food diary goal of 1700. In three weeks I have lost (12 lbs by my scales and 9.5 by dr scales). I saw the dr for the first time since starting with MFP just to make sure everything was still normal. Today BP was a little higher than my norm. (My norm 119/79 and today 135/79 but that was after 5 tries getting BP also!) Anyway she wants me to cut down to 1200 calories. I set the lowest exercise and it would only drop to 1490 calories. Is there a way I can set it manually to be 1200? Thanks for any help.

Wow your doctor actually said that low??? What on earth for? What is your height/weigth and how much do you need to lose?

Usually 1200 would only be for someone extremely tiny or someoen who needs to lose over 75 lbs.

At the top click goals, scroll to the bottom of the screen and click change goals, then click Custom: Manually set my own custom fitness goals and take it from there. :-)

Yeah the pp said how to find it. I'm not sure why they told you that? Sometimes you can eat too little and not lose. I have went by the guidelines MFP has set for me from the get go, I only eat back exercise calories if I am hungry and I have steadily lost for almost 5 months since I have started. Best of luck!!

I have 100+ to lose :(..... I am not sure how to adjust the foods though. I have done this 3 weeks and only hit 1200 once!!!! I am comfortable 1500 to 1700.

If your weight is 300lbs like it shows in your ticker, there is absolutely no need for you to starve yourself down to 1200 calories.
IMO, you can reduce a little at a time, but that is ridiculous unless the doctor knows a lot more about you than we do.

(If you are comfortable at 1500-1700, and your body is responding well, that is about as low as I would go)

IMO, if you're losing then don't change anything. It's obviously working for you!! Keep up the great job!!

PS- Just a warning, the more you lose MFP readjusts your goals and your calorie goals decreases

I was shocked I was told to drop calories down! Even the 9.5 loss their scales showed didn't seem shabby for three weeks to me!!! I KNOW if I cut my calories down that far and I don't lose weight it WILL discourage me. To drop that low I will definitely feel like I am depriving myself of too much. It will seem like a DIET not a lifestyle change. Anyway, she wants me to try 1200 and if I can not do that (since I belly ached about that seeming so low...LOL) she said not to go over 1500. That one I can handle better!!!! I know some day I will be down to 1200 calories. I have no problem with cutting calories when I get use to eating better. She went on to say it was more than calories in and calories out. That it had to do with age (hmmmm...I ain't no spring chick anymore) and amount of muscle. (When she said muscle I wanted to crack up since she said as we get older we lose muscle...Okay...in theory maybe so! But I still have a good amount of muscle mass under this FAT otherwise I would jiggle more!) Sorry. I am a bit bitter about the change request, but I will stop pouting and TRY to do as I was told. (And when I go back in a month and IF things did not improve she will have to listen to my big mouth!!!)

In addition to logging here I would recommend printing out your logs for the doc. Take them with you next time. Go back to the beginning here! Did you explain the way this site works to the doc? I say if it ain't broke don't fix it! You are doing great by either scale!

I totally agree with you! If you're feeling bitter and angry and ripped off, you're not as likely to stick to it, or if you do, you won't feel good about it. Believing in what you're doing and feeling good about it is a huge part of the battle. I'd definitely start out with a week at 1700, then a week at 1600, then a week at 1500 and so on to let your body (and mind!) adjust to the changes. If you start a battle between your mind and your body, you're not going to win - do what feels right in a gradual, sustainable way and I'd pretty much guarantee you're going to have more success than just "doing what you're told". Best of luck, and stick to your guns. It sounds like you have a good grasp on what you need to do and what feels right, so believe in yourself and your knowledge of what you need and you'll do great!
