3) Doing core exercises (abdominal exercises) is vital for reducing belly fat.
a. True
b. False
*************
Answer: B, while very important to overall orthopedic health and balance, a strong core won't help a lot with reducing belly fat as core muscles are relatively small, and don't produce large amounts of force (being stabalizer muscles, not power muscles) and thus don't require extensive energy.
*************

4) What is the name for the metabolic state in the body characterized by a calorie deficit and an increase in the burning of lean tissue mass?
a. Anabolism
b. Homeostasis
c. Hyperplasia

c. Potassium
d. Phosphorous
*************
Answer: B, Only Calcium meets all of these requirements.
*************

6) The best single measurement to use when calculating whether someone is at a healthy weight for their age, sex, and height is?
a. Body Mass Index (BMI)
b. Body Fat Percent
c. Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR)
d. Waist to Hip Ratio

EXTRA CREDIT

Describe in 100 words or less, the path a carbohydrate takes before it becomes a unit of directly usable energy. Highlight any processes and organs involved in the process.

*************
Answer:
When we consume carbohydrates, a small portion of the carbohydrate is acted upon by amylase in the mouth, when it is swallowed into the stomach, some of the simple sugars that are in the food are transfered by the blood stream to the liver and cells that can process these sugars, the majority of the carbohydrate is further ground in the stomach and passes through the duodenum into the small intestine where it is completely broken down into simple sugars which are transported by the Portal vein to the liver. depending on needs, the liver will either distribute the simple sugars, break them down further, or combine them to form glycogen. Glucose and glycogen are the two main forms of carbohydrate based energy precursor and thus you didn't need to put anything else, but if you wanted to you could have said, using insulin, cells absorb these molecules where mitochondria take them up and using oxygen and other molecules (phosphorus mainly) create ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate), the result of which is free energy).
