I have a common cold and I'm wondering if I should still work out or not?

I always work out when I'm sick unless it's in my chest - I don't mess with chest stuff because it can just get worse. I generally feel better with colds and sinus issues if I work out (not marathon running or anything, but I like to sweat a bit). That's just me though - listen to your body!0

I wouldn't force yourself to work out, but if you're feeling up to it, go for it!0

I am today. Main issue being sore throat which is causing me to cough so I'm not doing much cardio to hold off the coughing.
I used to make sickness (of ANY sort) an excuse to stay on my butt. I think with a common cold you will be ok to exercise. If you feel too terrible, just relax.0 -
If it's just a cold, I will work out, typically cardio only. It helps me to clear all of the junk out of my head and I seem to heal up faster. Everyone is different though and you should listen to your body.0

depends on how you feel but I would recommend cleaning any machine you use if u go to a public gym so you dont spread your germs ! some people say it makes them feel better but others worse...
try it out and see0 -
depends on the illness for me if its just a common cold then yep I would be working out0

My personal trainer says when your sick REST, Your body needs the energy to make you get well, while your sick.
Eat well and REST is what he tells me.0 -
No fever, light congestion, I'll work out. Fever, lots of congestion, dizzyness, etc, no working out.0

As long as my breathing isn't compromised, yes.0

No.... I don't. Of course, I am not one to 'hatch' (we all catch colds but we don't all hatch them) a cold very often.... if I am feeling sick, my priority is getting well. Rest is vital to getting over a cold.... so... I rest.0

I typically try to start out "laid back" and there are quite a few times that 10-15 min into my workout I actually begin to feel better and can finish a lot stronger then how I started. There are also times that 10-15 min into my workout I just feel like CRAP and decide that tomorrow is another day.0

I was sick today and I did strength training!0

I do. I might feel worse the next day So want to make sure I get in as much exercise as possible. It's just to easy to say, "I'm sick. I can't" I usually feel better after exercise. Or at least very glad that I did it, once it's over.0

As others have said, if it is in the chest or you are running a fever I wouldn't work out. A simple cold or allergies, a good sweaty cardio routine I will do!0

I would say rest especially if you are a member of a gym.. I got my last cold from the gym because of people spreading their germs. I was not a happy camper.. If you plan to work out at home try some yoga or pilates0

I've run with a cold before but I won't when I'm coughing and the running will make it worse, which it usually does. I hate running before work and then coughing all day which has to be really annoying to my co-workers, too.0

I don't workout when I'm sick because I workout in a gym. I don't think it's fair or right to share my germs with other people like that. (I did workout at the end of a sickness because I'd been on antibiotics for 4 days at that point, but I still took it really easy, covered my mouth when coughing with my arms, not my hands, and washed my hands really, really well before working out.0

I wouldn't work out with a fever, other than that, it probably good to get the juices flowing.0

I don't work out at a gym, I do it at home. But I have to take care of a 7months old too.0

Depends on how sick I am.. Last time I did, I was only feeling mildly weird. Wasn't full-blown sick, but it felt like something was on it's way. After I got done with workout I felt alot better.0

My advice is to not over-do it. I got this nasty cold 2 weeks ago, continued to do my workouts.....started feeling better, then whammo, last Wednesday it dropped me on my face and I was sicker than ever and it went into my chest. I'm only working out every few days until this bug is gone for good.0
