Help! I am stuck!

Hi Everyone,
I have having trouble with losing weight and I think I am doing everything right!!! So FRUSTRATING!!! I get the whole science of it - calories in vs. calories out. I try to eat right, but there are so many other factors like sugar, salt and carbs! I tried the whole Visalus thing and only lost 1.5 lbs the first week for all that work. I went back to real food because I would rather eat something for the effort. I think that I tend to "starve my body" when I watch what I eat (and tend to not go the bathroom). I am about 5'4 and weigh 173. I have a sit down job. How many calories should I be eating?? Please friend me and help me!! I really really want to succeed, but I am STUCK!!! I have tried Weight Watchers, South Beach, Slim Fast....etc! I just want to eat real food, count my calories, but I have know how to get there. Advice needed please

No more worries! We're here for you and you CAN do it! We both can!! We ALL can!
I'm 5'3" and 179 so good job on being smaller than me but we have a ways to go don't we? I eat about 1000 calories per day and really try to stick to that with healthy snacks and protein/fiber enriched foods. THEN at night I don't count my calories. I'm aware of what I'm eating and I watch my portions! I will eat 1, maybe 2 slices of pizza instead of 3 or 4. I figure my daily intake of calories is low enough that I can eat whatever i want for dinner, I just skip dessert. If I want dessert I will pay attention to what my dinner is i.e. salad with light catalina dressing or something then I recommend ice cream. It speeds up your metabolism anyway, in small doses. You'd be suprised how good 1 cup of sherbert ice cream is whe you haven't had any ice cream all week. I snack when I'm hungy on fruit, cheese or a 100 calorie snack, and I'm never unhappy, I am always satisified. Never "starve your body" that defeats the purpose, when you are hungry eat eat and then eat some more....just eat the right things. I started out by downing a full bottle of water before my little snacks, that will help keep you full and its calorie free. Plus, if you're dieting you should drink more H2O anyway. And, peeing burns calories so its a win-win!0
