I have lost over 75lb since last feb. and my hips hurt when I sit for a while. This is a bit tough because I have a desk job. My first 10-15 steps when I first get up are a bit painful. Is this common?

Are you following a particular exercise routine? Do your hips hurt when doing that? You may need to stretch your hip flexors. Check out this site with some stretches: http://www.dailyspark.com/blog.asp?post=8_hip_flexor_stretches_and_exercises_for_healthy_hips
ETA: If you do a Google search on hip flexor stretches, you should be able to find many more, including some how-to videos on Youtube.0 -
I have not lost as much weight as you but I have been having hip troubles. My dr. told me that I need to get up from my chair every 15 minutes during the day. Not that you have to go anywhere but just stand up and move, maybe even stretch a little. I am not very good about doing it...so my hip still hurts!0

Sounds like your hip flexors are tight. Spend a little time stretching that area. When I first started embarking on weightloss seriously, I had that problem too. If I sat down for a long time, and when I woke up in the morning it hurt. I started doing yoga for the relaxation benefits, and nearly immediately the pain in my hips lessened. When I did Insanity, I was worried about it coming back, because it really is quite painful, but the workouts always include several hip flexor stretches and I never had that problem.0

Get it checked out just to be on the safe side. Unless you are getting on a bit you shouldn't have hip pain and stiffness from sitting down. I get the same and was told by that doctor that it is NOT normal. In my case they suspect Rheumatoid arthritis as I also get it in my other joints. It is particularly bad when I have been sitting/sleeping and then try to move. It takes me about half an hour to get moving properly in the morning but exercise helps.
It may be nothing to worry about but it's a good idea to get it checked out just in case0 -
i'm seeing physio for a similar problem and it was my core muscles had weakened during my last pregnancy and my hips were compensating for the pelvis weakness. Try some lower core exercises for 2 weeks and see if it helps any ?
good luck x0 -
I'd see a doctor if it continues. Geeod luck.0
