Hunger and Portion Sizes

I have been looking at other members diaries and I'm a bit worried about how much I eat! I eat really healthily, most of my diet is fruit and veg. I am very active, my job is physical and I do a lot of exercise every day. I'm training for a half marathon so doing long distances. I am also a very hyperactive fidgety person and always on my feet. I'm not far from my weightloss goal but I feel hungrier and hungrier the closer I get, but I'm eating loads! What I'm worried about is if I can't exercise for some reason or I am unable to stick to eating my very healthy low fat meals (due to travel or something) then I will put on weight because of my portion sizes. But whenever I try to limit the sizes I get too hungry. I eat triple the amount that most people on this site eat. (In portion, not calories wise)

Its my understanding that the body gets hungry like this because it needs more nutrients. Fruits and veggies are of course very good for you but they are not nutrient dense. A lot of the bulk is water and fiber. Try supplementing with whole foods type shake with some added protein.0

I feel your pain. I have had this same problem before. One thing that has really helped me lately is making a daily goal instead of a long term goal. If I say to myself, "I am going to work on my portion sizes TODAY and then tonight I will re-evaluate my goals and make new ones for tomorrow," I find it is less pressure that I am putting on myself. .....I don't usually do well under pressure. Good luck!0

bump. i notice for me that if my carbs are much higher than my protein, i get hungrier. and if i eat more small meals as opposed to two or three large meals, i feel hungrier. try bumping up your protein intake at the expensive of carbs, and see if that helps. and tons of water.0

So you eat healthily, have an active lifestyle, are training for a half marathon, and are worried because...?! You're doing all the right things and it's working for you, so keep up the good work. If you have a day you can't exercise, or a blow out (because you're human!), you might have a little bump in the graph, but that's completely normal - everyone's progress line goes up and down on a day to day basis - as long as the general trend is down (or level if you're trying to maintain your current weight).
Seriously - you're setting a great example to the rest of us :-)0
