My mind says yes but my body says no!

OUCH! I've been doing a GREAT job with my daily treadmill workouts including upping my jogging (this is relatively new for me) at a slow speed to 1.25 miles per day. I LOVE it! It's hard by the end of the 1.25 miles and I walk an additional 2.75 miles with it but it's great! I love making a challenge for myself. I intended to up it to 1.5 miles next week but I HURT! :frown: My hips are sore and I'm having pain shoot down my leg from my sciatic nerve. I've never had these problems! I'm stretching, stretching, stretching but I'm sore! For the most part, while I'm actually working out, I don't feel the pain. It's later, after I've showered and going about my day. The stretches feel good but I can't make it go away completely. Does anyone have any ideas for good stretches to help? Anyone else have these problems? :explode: :explode: :explode:

keep up the great work  how often are you jogging ... because your body needs REST (time for the muscles to recover...) try changing up your routine... possibly run ever other day and do yoga... strength training etc (possible focusing on upper body / core) etc... remember to warm up before too... stretch (seems like you have this down... but also start slow... walk for a mile or so...) ... good luck, i'm no pro but i am a runner... and that's what works for me  keep it up! and if things get worse you may want to see a doc... / specialist ... you don't want to get sidelined by a bad injury ...

I have found that when my body is really sore taking a warm bath with epsom salt seems to help relax my muscles. I buy it from Walmart but I'm sure you can find it at any local grocery store. I hope it works for you.

Jogging for 5 continuous days is bad on your body. This is what I do and at first my body hurt due to the new exercising that I was doing, but now I'm starting to hurt a little less. Go Jogging on Mon, Wed, and Fri and then on your off days (Tue and Thur) do something very low impact, i.e. Stairmaster, eliptical, walking. Leave the weekends to do your relaxing. Push yourself, but don't push too hard. When your body hurts, listen to it...it's telling you that you're doing a little too much too fast.

I do a 1/4mi walk to warm up and another 1/4mi for cool down. I only stretch after. When I first started out I did have some soreness. I took some ibuprofen.
After a few weeks I think my body got use to the change in exercise. I had not been a runner before, only walking.

Also like someone else mentioned don't run everyday if you are just starting out. Give your muscles time to rest. You need to work up to running daily.

This is my schedule too! I really enjoy the weekends off. If it's nice out I walk but that's just bonus and for the enjoyment of being out in the nice weather!

I agree totally. I've use my weekends to relax quite a bit these past few weeks. The weather here has been nice, but I've been taking advantage of it by riding my motorcycle. That's the other reason I'm wanting to lose my weight. Got to look good on that bike when I go to FL.

Thanks so much everyone! I will start just doing the walking on Tues/Thurs and stretch a few times throughout the day to help alleviate the soreness I'm feeling now. I can't wait until I can jog my full 4 miles!
