Shoulder pain and bruising

I am planning on heading to the doctor to have this checked out, but was wondering if any other MFPers have experienced the same..
After doing a weights session, I am finding the top of my shoulder coming out in bruises, and pain in my shoulder when i let my arm rest by my side (strangely when it is moving it doesn't feel bad). It is not bruised across the back, fleshy part of the shoulder where i rest the bar for squats/lunges, but right on top of my shoulder around the acromion. I don't use any machines that have pads that rest on my shoulders either.
I really enjoy a good hard weights session, but am worried that it may be causing damage, so am staying well away from heavy shoulder work at the moment.. Will come back here after the doc and post what I am told..

The glenohumeral joint is very easily damaged due to it's wide range of motion. That's the price you pay for having such a flexible joint. Weight training exercises involving this joint should be done with very light weight to allow the muscle groups and supporting connective tissue to adapt to the stress. This site is a common area for injury. I use to suffer from chronic shoulder pain but it was due to overtraining the joint. I reduced the weight considerably and now I no longer have any pain in my shoulder. In fact, after reducing the amount of weight and "re-training" my shoulders, they've grown stronger.
So in short, if there's nothing seriously damaged about your shoulder, and in the words of Nacho Libre, "take it easy!"0
