Hi there!!,

I reached my weight goal a few months ago and i did it all at home cutting 28lbs to be at the mid range for normal for my height. I did it all at home and motivated myself by doing "insanity, jogging, cycling, skipping, step aerobics, and roller blading to name some!! but i got bored easily with all of them as i kept going over the same ones for a period of time until i got sick of them!! and I stopped being inspired!!.. and subsequently ate whatever i wanted too!! and im now 12lbs off where i was ;-(

I now have joined a gym since last week that does a wide variety of classes that are included in membership and am doing some extra cardio in gym so that should keep me interested!!!

So ive ranted on and not really kept to my post... in the classes ive been alternating cardio and weight training classes e.g, zumba, kettlebell, circuits, body pump... but my weight loss is slow. My diary has been clean (its open if anyone wanted to peek!), and im wondering should i stick to cardio for next few weeks till i lose the fat? or should i alternate and build muscle while cutting fat through cardio?

Any advice appreciated!!! I just want to lost the 12lbs and its going alot slower this time while using weights!!

Thanks!!
Laura ;-D

definitely start to lift heavy weights...this will cause your muscles to burn more calories than just by doing cardio when they recover and you will increase your bmr plus tone yourself. I do new rules of lifting for women and am amazed at how amazing the transformation has been in such a short time.

My advice, if you just want 'weight loss'...stick with cardio.

If you wanna look 'toned' like most girls say, keep up with weights as well.

Along with weightloss through diet and exercise (cardio), you'll lost both muscle and fat. If you cut calories but keep up with weight/resistanace training, your fat loss will be maximized while still preserving as much muscle as you can. Ultimately looking more 'toned'.

You'll be a bit weaker if you don't do a weight or full-body routine...

but you'll lose ''weight' faster (weight being mucle and fat) if you just drop calories and stick with cardio.

Hope that makes a bit of sense.

I wish more women did weights.

ok thanks for advice!! i think i get it!!

Im gonna keep up weight training in the long run but just wondered if i should just stick to cardio till im where i want to be, then go for the toned look through weights? im thinking a month at most to hold off?
  • My fiancé created a workout plan for me for weight training that I use to supplement my weight loss with cardio. He has me do each machine or dumbbell exercise at a low weight for 15 reps, then a higher weight for 12, then a higher weight for 10, then a higher weight for 8. It's helping me get toned, but I'm still losing weight without losing muscle.

I found your original post confusing, but it is probably just me. If you are near or in what is considered a healthy weight for your height you will find fat loss is quite slow. Also, if you just started new workouts, for the first week or so you may gain weight (not fat) because your body retains water to help repair the muscles that are being used in a new way. I would keep up with what you are doing, especially the added weight work as that will do a lot for weight loss.

it takes a LONG time to really build muscle...start now!

I was reading Chanel Hobbs' book "Never Say Diet" awhile back, and she's got some good advice when it comes to cardio vs weights. When you do cardio, your body stops burning calories after you finish. With weight training, the more you build up your muscles, the more you'll burn in the long run. Basically, do Cardio burns calories for now, and weights continue burning calories later, even after you've stopped. If that makes any sense. I think an equal number of both might get you to where you want to be.

Thanks for all good advice!! I'll stick with it for another couple of weeks and re-assess then. My original post maybe was confusing.. I got to goal weight but ended up gaining as I got bored with what I was doing and lost interest!!
