Calling all swimmers!

Hi All,
I have a confession - I'm not into running (its cold and I have dodgy knees which hurt), I'm rubbish with exercise DVD's (not doing them is preferable to doing them), but I do have a thing for swimming.
Inspired by my sister in law doing the 30 day shred challenge, I wondered if any swimmers wanted to cheer each other on, share training tips and generally form a little swimming community.
Let me know!
Melanie
PS - I go 5 times a week before work, swim about 800metres in 30 mins and like to not kill myself doing so!

I love swimming, but like you mentioned it's cold out so I haven't been able to do that lately. Where are you doing this at,a heated pool?0

I am trying to work my way up to 40 lengths without stopping! Doing acqua fitness too, for a variation of exercise in the water twice per week.0

Hello
I just joined My Fitness Pall and read your note. I am 74 and I go swimming 3 times a week in the morning. I can only do the side stroke because my shoulders are a mess. I swim for about 45 to 50 minutes and feel good after the swim. I have been doing this since I retired in 2002 and when I was working I went 5 times a week. It is a great exercise for people with arthritis.

I am in. I an decent swimmer. I just had my last open water swim at a local reservoir for a sprint triathlon. I made 17.5 minutes for a 750 meter but need to slow down for my shoulder's sake. Great upper body aerobic exercise!0

Thanks for the post, Melanie,
I started swimming about two months ago because of a not-so-great foot. At first I couldn't do it at all - and I thought I'd hate it. I was dizzy when I got out, couldn't make it five minutes, my hair turned to straw. Then I switched to the backstroke, got some earplugs and a cap and some chlorine shampoo, and now am able to do about 30 minutes 3-4 times a week. For those of you thinking about swimming, I can say I saw progress pretty quickly and I think it is helping with my weight loss and body shape.

I love swimming, got a gym membership at a particular place because they have an awesome pool (that no one ever uses, so it's like having my own private lap pool) and I hardly ever go.:embarassed: I really want to fix that! Going 2-3x a week would make me really happy....I generally do 60 lengths, spend about 45mins. So count me in - I would like someone to kick me in the butt with this! Don't let me use the cold as an excuse! (The pool is inside but colder weather still manages to deter me!)0

yes! I love lap swimming, especially now that i finally figured out my Speedo Aquabeat, listening to music while swimming is super relaxing. I try to do 1650 in about 45 minutes, alternating breast stroke and freestyle with some kickboard and arm pull work as well. Would love more motivation as it gets colder0

Did 10 laps this morning, after 45 min of aquafitness. Would have done more, except the pool was closing.0
