21 yr old male doing p90x......YES I would increase your protein! I eat more than 40 grams and im a girl! :bigsmile:0

You should probably have a protein shake like an hour after your workout0
-
are you following the nutritional plan that comes along with P90x?0

wow 40 grams is not enough in a day if you are doing strength training. For phase 1 of P90X you should be getting 50% of your cals from protein, and since the minimum intake for the program is 1800 cals you should be getting around 225 grams of protein.
I would suggest you would be fine if 30% of your cals came from protein, which would still be 135 grams/day.
To get more protein look into:
Protein Bars
Protein powder
lean meats
low fat cheeses
Greek Yogurt
Nuts/seeds
lentils/beans
Cottage cheese
eggs
egg whites
Tofu
Temph
soy milk
Milk
edamame (soy beans)
etc.0 -
Have you read the P90X nutrition guide that comes with the DVD set? There's a ton of great information in there, and it pretty much breaks everything down for you. There are three phases to the nutrition plan, just like there are three phases to the workout plan. Phase 1 calls for a very high protein intake (50% of your calories...)
But to answer your question, yes I would recommend more protein. You can use a protein supplement, or you can add more lean protein sources (chicken, fish, dairy, nuts, etc.) or both.0 -
Maybe consult a doc or a nutritionist to establish that. From what I've learned, AT LEAST 1g of protein per 1kg of body weight.
Take your weight in lbs and divide it by 2.2 to get your weight in kilograms.
Edit: I'd be careful with protein intake. Body builders need 2g of protein per 1kg of body weight. But that's heavy body building Arnold status.0 -
i dont have the guide or any of that, my friend just gave me a copy of the workouts and calendar. and thanks for the advise0

The program he is on recommends even more than that for the first 4 weeks.0 -

You should seek out copies of the nutrition guide and fitness guide. Lots of very valuable information in both books....0 -

Personally I find them blah.
I'd rather have my protein from meat.0 -
I love pure protein bars or EAS whey protein for my shakes with some fresh fruit!0
