I DON'T GET IT EITHER......I think i am doing pretty good at the pace of 65, there is no way I could go any faster than that and last all my minutes!!!!!! :sick:0

I doubt you can. The "stride" is set on an elliptical where as a runner you can increase speed on a treadmill with a larger stride.0

less friction, and you are trusting that the callibration on the machines are acurate. Not trying to be negative, just realistic. That is why you exert more energy running on the road than on the treadmill, elliptical, etc. It brings your body weight, posture, friction, etc. into account. Hard to measure all of that on the machines.0

less impact = less stress on your body = go further0

i see people post times on another fitness site, and it's always faster than a 10 min mile. i keep my pace between 70-80 rpms for long distance and about 90 on a "sprint" and that's only like 5.5 mph! then again i have the resistance up too...so that might have something to do with it.0

Be careful with ellipticals. They are really better for working out when you have an injury and can't do a lot of high impact stuff. This is coming from my cousin who is a Physical Therapist. THe Elliptical does not work all of the hip flexors and muscles you need to run/walk on regular ground. Then when you think you can just hop off and go for a run, then you end up hurting yourself! Just an FYI. ellipticals are better for injury.

To me, the elliptical is closer to biking than it is to running.0
