This question goes out to you folks that are using a Casein Protein powder, in particular if you're using or have used Optimum Nutrition's powder. I've been using a combination of ON's Whey Protein and GNC's Pro Performance Casein powders (mostly because that's the only Casein powder the GNC by me carries). I'm very happy with the ON product. It mixes very well whether in a shaker cup or a blender and regardless of if I mix it with milk or water. On the other hand, the GNC Casein I'm not happy with at all. It does not mix well in a shaker cup, just clumps up and is really nasty. I have to mix it in a blender and even then can only mix it with water because if I mix it with milk it gets way to thick.
So I've been looking for options. I see that ON does have a Casein powder that is carried online by both GNC and other more discount retailers. I'm curious what others' experience has been with the ON Casein powder. Does it mix well in a shaker cup or am I still tied to using a blender? Does all casein powder result in such a thick mix or might the ON powder mix better with milk than the GNC Pro Performance brand? Any thoughts or suggestions you have would be most appreciated and would help bring peace to my house (especially if I can stop having to run a blender at 10:00 at night when I'm mixing up my bedtime casein shake).

Bump....I use ONs 100% Natural Whey, so I would like to hear what other people have to say0

I dont use your brand but the brand I use if mixed on a cup or spoon does seem abit clunky. I purchased a really cheap individual blender from walmart $14 dollars and the cup is well a cup with lid like a coffee cup so it works for me.0

I have an order for ON Casein coming in this week. I'll let you know once I receive it.0

I've used ON casein protein. Stuff does NOT mix well even when using a blender. Tasted horrible too(some chocolate flavor). Threw away half a tub.0

Have you used ON's Whey at all? If so how would you compare the taste of that to the Casein?0 -

ON whey is the only protein powder I ever use or suggest to people. I could not say enough good things about it.
There is no comparison between the 2. The casein tasted kinda like evaporated milk. It was very hard to mix and always clumpy. Milk, water, with ice, in a blender... didn't matter. All of the ON whey proteins that I have tasted, taste great.
IMO, stay away from casein powders.0 -
Lockef, that helps quite a bit. I don't see giving up on taking Casein, but it sounds like the other options out there aren't really any better than what I'm using now. I agree on the ON Whey, it's definitely the best that I've tried and I swear by it. But I still plan to keep going with my Casein bedtime shake as I've seen a great deal of improvement in muscle recovery and morning energy since I added it to my diet.0

I've found that casein, no matter the brand, doesn't mix well. I've used different brands & found all to clump up a bit. I believe it's because casein forms a gel but I could be wrong. BTW, I used Cytosport Complte Casein strawberry. I use chocolate and peanut butter for everything else, I needed a different flavor profile.0
