This is continued from previous Walking Challenges, but its nice when each month has its own thread.
*** Anyone can join in at any time, the more the merrier, lets keep each other motivated****
Walking seems like the easiest way to start getting exercise, and even if you can't track distance (or don't want to), tracking time is good too...go for a 10 min walk after dinner, or up it to 30 minutes, you'll be amazed at the end of the month how much more exercise your getting in.
Check in everyday with how far you walked or how long, this is just to motivate us to get in at least some exercise everyday, and keep an eye on each other.
Make a ticker and keep it in your signature to remind you of your goal, and show everyone how well your doing. Go to this website.
http://www.tickerfactory.com/ezticker/ticker_designer.php?type=8
Pick out your ticker pictures, set your miles or minutes, and your goal. Then copy all of the bbCode into your signature.
It will look like this (but in your ticker...like mine) You use the url (from the bbCode) to update your ticker everyday (you can find this in your signature after you post the code there), just remember your pin.
I want to try to keep this mostly to walking or walking type exercising. treadmills and ellipticals are A-OK.
Hope to see some more faces in this challenge, we'll start tracking September 1st!
Do you need help making a ticker? Look at this link for step by step directions.

I just wanted to post these links again for the new comers
Each one of these links is a mile walk. (or 12 min). With a total of 5 miles.
So if you aren't able to make it outside, (Because its summer and its HOT or don't have much time...12 minutes isn't asking a lot lol) then check them out to get in a quick walk.

So since this is my first time with this challenge, can you please fill me in on what I need to do? Obviously I need to keep track of my time or distance, but anything else? How many participants do you have so far? And is this the thread that we follow to keep up with the challenge?0

I am so sorry that I didn't respond to this sooner. I haven't been doing my walking because I hurt my back last week, so I haven't been checking in.
This is probably the most laid back thread you can join. All you do is decide how much walking you want to do during the month. Some people choose a number of miles that they want to go, some people choose how many minutes they plan to walk during the month. Most of us have tickers in our signature that help us track. If you don't know how to make a ticker, then reread the first post on this thread, . I believe it tells you where to go to make one. Just check in after you have completed a walk and tell us how far/ long you've gone.I am actually not the person who started this, I have just kept it going for the last couple of months. I don't know how many people are a part of this. This isn't a thread that will ever be a closed group. We take all who want to come.0 -
CriketKate: Thanks so much for continuing this thread.:flowerforyou:

Well I decided to count steps. Put the pedometer on and away i go. Thought I would aim for 10,000 steps a day, that is 70, 000 a week. May have given myself to large of goal, but by having thisI find I am choosing to walk a lot more often. Have just spent the last 2 days in the city and walked almost everywhere, even choosing to walk home from jazz class rather than taking the bus. Tonight I walked up 70 stairs choosing a different bus stop. I like having this challenge which keeps me moving.0

Great Job, Everyone who is keeping up with it. It seems like we've lost some people this month. I guess that we're getting into the busy Holiday Season. Just remember that now is when we need it the most. I've been down with an injured back and, though it is feeling better, I have been terrified of reinjuring it. I think I may try some easy walks with my kids. It is definately time to get back to work!!!!!0

Walked on my lunch break... the first time in like forever. 20 minutes yay.0
