Hi guys,

I was just wondering how much weight training would be sufficient to maintain lean body mass/contribute to weight loss? At the moment I'm lifting 2.5kg dumbbells 3 - 4 times per week, but I'm not sure if it's enough. Any suggestions?

As much weight as you can keep proper form with. then pick your poison. you could do 2 full body days and be totally fine. you could split it a lot of ways.

Yes, the heaviest you can lift safely. Put down those weenie weights!

How do you know how much weight is enough - be able to do at least 6 reps, if you can't - the weight is too heavy.

DON'T be able to do more than 12 reps - if you can, then the weight is too light.

I LOVE and recommend the book, "The New Rules of Lifting for Women" by Lou Schuler - it lays everything out very clearly and explains they why's and how's of safe and proper and EFFECTIVE weight training.

I do it 3 times a week. If you can do more then 15 rep without struggling for the last 3 reps.....it's too light. If 2.5 kilo was enought to challenge our muscle....every mother would me a muscle women!!!!
