So I am thinking of starting a bootcamp of sorts for women. My husband says curves already does that. However, I will be pretty hard core. My friend says when I train her I scare her, because I get my trainer voice on. It is only because she likes to take breaks-haha. We have fun together at the gym. I would make it so reasonably priced. However I say that, but then you start thinking, I would have to have a place to do it and I want to slowly start getting more equipment. The more I think of this the more of a hassle it is sounding, but it is a passion and I want to do it. I work at a bootcamp now, but I want to branch out on my own. Friends have asked me to start one here in the complex I live at. However it is now starting to get cold. So who knows!!! I guess I just wanted to put it out there and write it down so maybe one day I will get this to happen.

during the spring/summer/fall i hold an outdoor bootcamp at a local elementary school every Saturday morning. i dont charge for it because I am not certified, plus I barely get friends to show up when its free.

I use the black top to set up drills, I ask everyone to bring a mat and we do circuits with our body weight, and then we do hills at the end. its a lot of fun :)
  • I have no idea of your skils or business acumen or those things but i do know a lot about business and entreprenurial skills.

You start brilliantly by telling me all the reasons why you should do it before slipping into all the reasons that you are using not to do it. You make reference to places and equipment, these are resources that you feel you lack, however there really is no such thing as a lack of resources, just resourcefulness! Thats not a criticism by the way, just an observation. What you could do of course is approach peoplewho have the resource of either space or equipment in your community (say a school or Gym) and use their facilities, Schools tend to be cheap making it easy to turn a profit and Gyms and or Fitness Centres will often be happy to do a 'share of the takings' arrangement if they have empty slots, just 2 of any number of ways to overcome that particular. Really if you make this a must in your life you can make it happen even if it is on a very low level basis to start with. I wish you loads of luck if you do go for it as you are exactly the type of person people would find inspirational i should think.

marshallj86. I wonder if charging for it would improve your attendance, its fairly well recognised that anything that is free is usually viewed as being of little value, perhaps a nominal fee, i mean really small so that there is no bar to entry, paid in advance would provide the motivation for participants? Worth a try maybe?

I was once a memeber of a slimming club and the price got so ridiculously expensive and the leader changed and was horrid so some of decided to start our own, meeting in a local place with scales and having a weigh in, chat and support etc just like the club. It was going well and a lot of people joined us but attendance was sporadic by most people. I suggested and it was agreed we would charge a small amount each week, and set a small target (set by each person for themselves) for every 7 weeks, every 7th week we would have a free meal out which is covered by the weekly fees (paid whther you attended or not). There was a twist in that if you did not meet your target then you paid for your own meal and your meal money/fees went into a charity pot. Attendance & membership has soared, so much so that we are now courted by other clubs and local media. We also fine a tiny amount for weight gains that go in a pig on the table which also goes to charity - last Christmas we distributed £1200 ($2000) between 5 local charities and we all have a lovely time once a week and a social event every 7 weeks.

The point being that it was the introduction of fees that not only made people attend but it made them see "their" in a more serious light! Food for thought?

good luck to you both, i really admire people willing to take a chance
