measuring yourself

hello everyone! so i know it's fairly standard to weigh oneself once a week/month in the morning after going to the bathroom and before eating anything...but is there a standard for when to take measurements? since i've joined MFP a couple months ago I've been measuring once a week, the same day I weigh in, but in the afternoons after work (when i have more time). i've noticed almost no change. this morning, just for kicks, i measured before work and low-and-behold, i lost like 2 in in my middle.

is this a similar thing where it doesn't matter when just as long as you're consistant? when do YOU measure yourself? do you do it at the same time you weigh-in?

I do it in the evenings, usually Sunday or Monday. I just don't have time in the morning.
  • I think it makes sense to do it in the mornings. You can always have trouble with bloating and swelling and so forth so i think mornings would be the best bet.
  • I have only taken measurements twice - just started MFP - but I take them on the same day I weigh and at the same time, in the morning.

    ^ I second that.

the one thing you don't want to do is right after any type of workout, including cardio as your muscles are swollen and there will be a significant difference.

Also, I am apparently NO good at measuring myself, or I guess, rather I measured at the wrong spot on my hips and may or may not be able to fit in my custom made bikini. We shall see.... *fingers crossed*
  • I weigh in once a week (Sunday mornings - after bathroom before eating), but I only do measurements once a month. But I think as long as you are consistent, it shouldn't matter whether you measure in the morning or the evening.

I try to measure in the mornings, as well...before I've eaten anything or when I'm not bloated.
