Ive read should consume protein using .8 to 1 g per pound of weight. If you are extremely overweight, you should consume protein at your ideal weight not current.
So, in theory, if someone consumed 1500 calories which is their ideal weight's requirement and stuck to it, then one would lose weight and continue that lifestyle once they reached their goal weight?
What are your opinions?

I know that's how we do it when we have an overweight dog come into the rescue. You feed them the number of calories based on the weight you want them to be.0

High endurance athletes and strength trainers will most likely consume 1 to 1.5g per lb of LBM.
Also you can't just say 1500 calories as a definitive number to lose weight. It depends on what you burn in a 24 hour period.

OK stupid question...do you have to go to the Dr's to find out your LBM? I've been more and more curious b/c I was this same weight (140ish) 3 years ago, yet b/c I'm actually working out and doing strength exercises, clothes that fit me OK then, fit GREAT now.0 -

TDEE = Total Daily Energy Expedenture (The amount of calories you burn in a 24 hour period based on BMR, TEA, and TEF)
BMR = Basal Metabolic Rate (The amount of calories you burn if you were in a coma)
TEF = Thermal Effect of Feeding (Calories that are burned through food digestion)
TEA = Thermal Effect of Activity (Calories that are burned through non-exercise activity)0 -

You can use formulas to determine your LBM, but you have to have a good idea of what your bodyfat% is first to determine this. Also nothing is 100% accurate.
LBM = [total weight (kg) x (100 - bodyfat %)]/1000 -

I mentioned "extremely overweight person" in my topic thread. For futher clarification, one could assume this would include people that are requiring a lot of calories to maintain. So anyone in this higher range, if they did crunch down to their goal's maint calorie intake level and stuck through it, in theory would they lose weight and be fine?
The protein part was taken off on another level. In some theories, people have suggested using for extremely overweight people their weight goals daily protein intake values. So in this case, if you have a 300 lb man who wants to be 200 lbs, he would consume the amount of protein for a 200 lb person. That is anywhere between 160-200 g a day.
So using this idea, if a person wanted to be 200 lbs, could he consume the maint level of a 200 lb person based on their height and weight and all those fun calculations, and make that his lifestyle change and be perfectly fine?0 -

You have to measure yourself and then do the math. It takes a little while, but it is totally worth it.0
