Yesterday, in response to someone's post asking how often we weigh ourselves, I realized that weighing myself daily (even though I record my official weight only on Wednesdays) might be leading to some complacency on my part. More specifically, I have realized a pattern of mine. I would kick butt for a few days, see good results on the scale, and kind of coast the rest of the week until the official weigh in day. The coasting would usually happen over 1 day or a few days, but I now realize that I was coasting at times. Until yesterday, I never really thought that weighing myself daily was counter productive...I mean, I always knew that weight fluctuated throughout the week and I was okay with those fluctuations. That's the physical part of the journey. But weighing in daily was affecting my mental toughness near the end of several weeks.
Anyway, yesterday, I committed to doing a personal test where I would weigh in only on Wednesday mornings. I want to see if this changes my mental approach as I approach each weigh in day. I'm hoping this will help me avoid the complacency creep.
So, this morning, I had a literal Non-Scale Victory...I did NOT use the scale
p.s. Nothing in here should be interpreted as any position on whether weighing in daily is a good or a bad thing. For me, though, I believe it was affecting my mental approach so I'm going to try weighing in weekly for a while.
p.s.2...this NSV is another testament to the value of MFP. Before MFP, I wasn't one for committing my goals to writing. I now appreciate the power and value of committing to goals in writing. If I didn't commit to skipping the scale on my MFP profile yesterday, I might have given in to the curiosity temptation this morning and weighed in. However, I knew my pals would hold me accountable since I said I would be trying this personal test. Thanks MFP!

Good for you! It is completely understandable from where I'm sitting because I am considering doing the same thing... I need to stop relying so much on the scale every day. It can be frustrating when it goes up and down so much! Thanks for the post - I think you'll find a lot of people are in the same boat... Good luck with sticking to your goal!!0

I weight my self daily..ye sit fluctuates all the time..... but it has helped me a lot so far...... i really enjoy to see my weight daily... n if i find that it has increased even one point...i work on it
P.S. my official weight check is in the morning after i wake up n cm bk frm washroom..... i dont consider d weight i see on the scale any other time of the day0
