Donatos pizza

So hubby joined me on MFP about two weeks ago. He has been doing great, but his new eating is so drastic I am concerned it will be hard for him to stick with it. I try to keep encouraging him, but without the unsolicited advice we all hate. So he saved up calories yesterday to have one of his favorites - Donatos thin crust pepperoni. He called and asked me first and I agreed, no problem we can order pizza. I ate 2 small pieces and had a turkey sandwhich. He ate the rest of the pizza! (Well our 2 children each ate a piece.) So my whole idea about having all the foods you want is to eat in moderation. I can have 300 calories of pizza, but not half the pizza like I used to eat (which would be 1300 calories). He made a comment that he couldn't believe I was eating a turkey sandwich because he couldn't stop once the pizza was in front of him. I guess we all differ in our ideas of eating healthier, but even though he had 2,000 calories left for the pizza that doesn't mean he should've eaten it all right? Or am I overanalyzing?

I think it's gross... but... different strokes for different folks? I'm helping a friend with his weight loss journey, too (he uses weight watchers, not MFP) and I disagree with some of his choices (similar to your pizza incident), but he goes running and whatnot, and he is losing weight at a healthy pace.0

I think you're over-analyzing. If he's been doing great, praise him! If he wants to cheat once in a while, let him. Eventually he won't be able to eat 1/2 a pizza because he won't be used to eating that much anyway. He's sticking with being healthy for the most part and if he can't enjoy the things he loves once in a while he might quit sooner. Just encourage him not to make this a habit and more of a treat.0

Yes I think you are over analyzing. Don't be critiquing how he spends his calories in relation to how you spend yours, or you will surely run him off the diet and away from MFP.
As long as he is staying in his calorie range you should be happy. I like to save calories for late night snacking. It works for me, but probably not everyone. It makes loosing weight barable if you can treat yourself (especially it you stay in calorie limits).
I also have dificulty with bingy pizza eating. How can you possibly stop. I try to avoid it somewhat and don't have it as often as I used to. One thing you may suggest to your hubby is have a salad with lo cal dressing first. It will fill him up some and he may not eat the rest of the pizza. My problem is pizza doesn't really fill me up till I eat a LOT. Eatting a salad first helps me.0 -
I did WW's and if I really wanted that pizza I'd eat it...and also save points for it. The plan works but I noticed I felt like death warmed over after a binge of "naughty" food.0

I noticed this early on, and it tends to prevent me from "cheating" just because I think "Do I really want to feel that way? Hmmm no." haha0 -
What is so bad about eating pizza? He stayed under calories. Sounds like he is doing very well.0

Okay! I'll let it go. I just think that eating an egg sandwich and 2000 calories of pizza isn't the healthiest day of eating, but he gets to make his own choices.0 -

You change the whole way you eat when you start "counting" calories! Whether its MFP, WW's or whatever you are making a concious choice about what to put in your mouth. So if you really wanna piece of chocolate cake and have to eat lettuce the rest of the day you are still within your calories. Its better than eating everything in site plus the cake. KWIM?0 -

I know. I won't be commenting on his choices. He already lost 9 lbs and he is doing great. I am very proud that he made the choice to change. I will keep my mouth shut.0 -
I guess this isn't the thread to read if you are craving pizza.
If he was within his calorie limit, definately let it go. I know it isn't the best, but I've definately saved a huge portion of my calories for a larger meal (pizza, Mexican, etc.) in previous weight loss attempts.
Now if he ate that much pizza and was over his limit I would be more concerned, but still one cheat meal/day isn't the end of the world. It becomes the norm I would sit down and talk with him about how you are proud of his decision to eat better but you are concerned about what you are seeing.
Doing something like this together should help both of you since you can be accountable to each other. Just don't stress over one meal!0
