For the past 4 years, I have run the Rock and Roll 1/2 Marathon. This year, I just didn't enter it. This week, I decided I needed some training motivation so I am entering it. The bad news is that I only have a month to train. I have to get on the fast track to training....any advice?

I'm running my first with only a month to train, too! I'm basically doing the 1/2 marathon training guide (you can google it) but condensed. My long days are Saturdays, then I split the run in two during the week. So 4-4-8 miles would be one week. I'll do 5-5-10 two weeks before the race, then back to 3-3-6 the week before. Only a light run the week of..

Thanks Kevin....that is a good plan. I was thinking that I could do one long run a week and several shorter ones.

I looked at your profile. My brother lives in Raleigh. He is training for the NYC Marathon now. He completed the Ironman last summer. I get a lot of advice from him!!

Cool. Is he on MFP? He probably belongs to some of the run clubs I go to.

I am not sure if he is on MFP. His name is Jeff Weir.

I have run 1/2's before but didn't start training this late. I have been doing Insanity and working out with a trainer but I miss the running.

I ran the Disney Wine & Dine this past weekend and I'd dropped my training for like 6 weeks prior to the race (dumb me!) If you can do 7 or 8 miles a couple weeks before the race you'll be fine. Important thing to do is find a pace that lets you get all the way through it. You'd be surprised how long you can run at the right pace 8)
