So I did a project for one of my classes last semester on the health benefits on pole dancing as a form of exercise. I have not personally tried it but everything I found about it was positive. I was wondering if any of you have tried it or had any experience at all with it? Is it a good workout? Do you burn lots of calories?

Well, I don't have a pole, nor have I ever been an exotic dancer, but my best friend has. And she has a pole in her house to practice on. So I decided to give it a shot and was swinging all over the place LOL. And the next morning I was SO incredibly sore. So I'd say it's a great workout.
Also, my best friend started as "skinny fat". And now she is super toned and all she does for exercise is dance on that pole0 -
I tried it but racked myself.

Fun workout! I went to a bachelorette party and one of our stops was a pole dancing class.....I didn't think I'd like it but it was a lot of fun and it was definitely a workout! I haven't tried it since but if I had the chance, I'd do it again! Belly Dancing is also another good workout and you can learn some new moves too!0

I took a trial class, it was awesome. The woman teaching it was ripped! She had amazing muscle tone in her abs. I asked her what she does to supplement her pole dance training and she reported that she does nothing else. It's cardio and strength all in one and it's also a nice escape from the typical fitness class or gym environment.0

I actually took this class last year and loved it!!
Its an amazing core workout....I would still be enrolled but they aren't offering it anymore.0 -
My friend bought this video series "Flirty Girl Fitness" which is REALLY fun! We jokingly call it "stripper class" because the routines are based on "sexy music video moves." I love it because it's sooooo much fun and it's a great workout. Plus, I like being able to do it whenever I want, at home, especially since it's a hard workout when you're not used to exercise and I felt anything BUT sexy the first few times, lol!0

I've been to a few pole classes. they are fun and a super workout. i was sore all over the next day. My best friend is a personal trainer...she swears by these classes. She's given up on her old routines and goes to pole class at least twice a week and will soon be putting a pole in her home gym. I can't wait!!0

Pole dancing is incredible. I cannot tell you what it's done for my fitness, strength, confidence and general well being.
It combines cardio and muscle building and the more advanced you get the more calories you burning holding those super inverts!
I would really recommend taking a class as pole dancing can be dangerous and you can get really hurt if you do things incorrectly. On saying that, once you have the beginner- invert safety/ a good knowledge of how the pole works with your body you can train yourself pretty much.
If there's no classes in your area I would recommend The Art of Pole DVD series by Jamilla Deville.
If you're going to buy a pole DO NOT buy cheap crap like the Peek a boo/ any Carmen Electra pole (despite what they say). I will always recommend the X-Pole and that's what pretty much all the professionals/ champions use. You're paying for safety!0
