I neeeeeeed to do another race. I can't go but so long before those reminder emails start getting me all fired up to pick a race. Big Daddy (that's the husband) keeps telling me to stay focused on my goal. Distance running makes me so hungry, and my fitness goal right now is to cut down the body fat and build up my delts, biceps, and glutes a lil' bit. Which is already at odds, because traditionally you should typically focus on shedding fat OR building muscle. But I wanna race so BADDDDDD. He thinks the race training will take away from my other stuff, plus eat away at muscle.

Whatcha think? (I mean, like facts type stuff. Not "do what makes you happy" type stuff, because then I'd be face down in a pecan pie...).

You raise a good point. Perhaps I should have given some information on what I AM doing before I ask for advice on what I should do.

I lift M-Sat. MWF is total body, with focus on the glutes and delts. Includes pull-ups, military presses, and jump rope between sets. Then, I let my friend kick my *kitten* for an hour in her Interval class. T, Th is a ton of squats and bicep curls and dead lifts. I'm serious about the rear view right now. Big Daddy likes it that way. Then, I let my friend kick my *kitten* in her Cycle class for an hour. THEN, I do 20 minutes on the treadmill after my friend kicks my *kitten*. Saturday I only lift for delts, and cardio the rest of the time. This could be treadmill, elliptical, or swimming laps. So I kick my own *kitten* on Saturdays. Sundays, no gym. Otherwise, I'd never rest enough to grow anything.

I could do long runs on Saturdays, potentially. I could make it work, time-wise. But running makes me uncontrollably hungry, like I just can't get enough food EVAH.

Race. Do it. Do it. Do it!
Sorry, I love running. I'm no help.
Can you train for the race every other week? I mean, obviously you are fit, so how much "training" do you need? With the workouts you are doing, you can't have lost any of your fitness. Besides - all of this weight training you are doing will make you a better runner - faster, stronger, better form. So run every other week. That's my idea.

The end of your post made me laugh :-) Pass me the pecan pie!
