Hello,
I have an interview at a gym next week, for a part-time receptionist position. It is very close to my house and the hours they are looking for work perfectly with my university schedule. It also comes with a free membership (bonus!)
My only issues are....

1) I haven't had an interview in a million years (I've worked for the health region for 5 years), so I'm super rusty
2) I have no idea what to wear....how dressed up should I be?

Thoughts anyone? This would be such a great opportunity to help me fund my schooling and make me go to the gym!! :)
Thanks!

(sorry I did post this in two places because I wasn't sure which area was the best fit)

I'll take a stab at this because I am a human resources person and I also work at a gym. So, dress cleanly and nicely. Not a suit, but not jeans or work out clothes either. You'll be the first face people see so they want someone dressed appropriately for that. I've forgotten the rest of your question...!

I would do business casual. Slacks and a nice blouse or sweater set or something.
  • Great ideas, thank you!

Regarding the interview, be upbeat and positive. I always look for people who answer questions with "I" rather than "we" because I am interested in the person and what they did or what they think and not what their past employer, their teacher or team did. For example, "we always answered the phones within 2 rings" vs. "I do my best to answer the phone with a smile on my face and within two rings."

If you have some ideas of things they may ask you, send me a note and I can help you frame some answers. In any case, use your adrenalin rush of nervousness to help you sit up straight, make eye contact, etc. Have fun. Smile. Be appreciative of their time. Remember that it needs to be a good fit for you, too, so you are interviewing them as well.

    Good luck!

    This!

You could even do a nice button up blouse and a pencil skirt. Keep the colors neutral (black, brown, navy) and I always wear closed toe heels for interviews.

Monster.com used to have practice interview tests on their website (it's been awhile since I've been on their site), but that's something that may help you practice beforehand. Maybe even print out a bunch of questions and have a friend ask you the questions.

    Good luck!!!

Yes business casual. I picture black flared pants with a low heel. Nice blouse....no cleavage! Practice your interview with a friend. Congrats... I'm really exited for uuuuu.

Since the position your applying for is receptionist I recommend showing your highly energetic individual. Your the first peson someone sees or talks to when they call so it will benefit you to show you have the personality of the "face of the company".

I would also let them know of you weight loss success thus far and working at a gym would be a greater motivation for you. Good luck!!!
