Stress Eaters-HELP!!!

I have steadily been gaining weight over the last ten years as I have gotten older and this year, after having gained a total of 90 lbs over that time, I have basically decided its time to stop. My health is at risk and while that may not give me much motivation, I need to get serious. My problem is that I lost a child three years ago and I can't seem to get my stress eating under control. I will eat just for the sake of eating. I may not even LIKE what I am eating that much! Does anyone have any advice for defeating stress eating?? Any tricks that have worked for you?? I appreciate the help. I am down 4 lbs; I am exercising and I've been coping with the whole stress thing so far. I need some new tricks in my bag though. I don't want to fail at this again!!

have you seen your doctor. you may need some help getting over the stress before you can conquer your eating habtits.
I know from personal experience that i was a serious binge eater and would eat all day long if i could. my doctor prescribed me some anti anxiety tablets cos it seemed to stem from some tragidys that i faced a few years before and 2 months on i am nearly a stone lighter and hardly snack at all. in fact, food is not my number 1 priority anymore. i no longer worry what im going to each for lunch or dinner. i just go with the flow.
maybe you should request some time with a coucillor but you need to address your stress before anything. speak to your doctor.

Hey. Im facing a similar issue with fighting the urges to eat when im stressed out. Im getting married in Last week of December and I need to lose 10kg by then. I exercise every morning burning upto 250-325 calories. I started a contorlled diet recommended by my dietician it involves lots of fruits and veg salads and some protein too for lunch and dinner with skimmed milk and yogurt. Point being, the diet is enough to fill you up yes. But just following everything in sequence gets a bit annoying and distressing. Besides that I get major anxiety and panic attacks at odd hours because im doing all the wedding shopping, clothes and arrangements etc. So every now and then I cant help but indulge in bag of crisps with yogurt dip, or cookies and half a bar of chocolate (my wekaness). I feel so guilty about it and helpless and worry that I wont be able to lose and get in shape for the wedding. *sigh*0

Thanks ladies! The stress eating is better. I joined the gym with my daughter and we have been exercising faithfully 3-5 times a week. That is helping. I still blow my diet every now and then but at least I'm not gaining instead of losing! I blew it twice last week and still lost a pound! I am focusing on not blowing it at all though. That's what I need to be doing.0
