I am going to meet a trainer on Saturday. I wanted to see if anyone out there had any tips or experiences with a trainer? Anyone have any thoughts on what makes a good trainer?

Focus is on proper technique with free weights and of course continued weight loss.

    I responded to your wall post bro, but I'll post it here.

    Ask a trainer this;

    "What exercises should I do, as I am a beginner, to build the most muscle mass possible?"

    If he answers: Isolation exercises, cables, or machines, then he doesn't really have a clue.

    If he answers: Lift heavy using compound lifts such as Squats, Deadlifts, Barbell Bench, Barbell Military Press and Barbell Rows...then you are probably good to go.

    This is pretty accurate

    I personally ask them what their additional certifications are. I want to know what else they have experience in aside from lifting and running. My guy is a level 2 crossfit trainer, and has some nutritional background as well, that was good for me.

    You and I are probably looking for different things from our trainers, but I always like to know as much about them as possible. It's not just about what they can show you, it's also about the meshing of personalities as well.
