Eat to Live Plan

Has anyone else heard of this eating plan by a Dr. Fuhrmann? If so, have you tried it and how successful have you been? I read the book and it makes total sense to me and I have been trying to follow it this week. A couple of roadblocks I have run into, I can't seem to give up my high fiber, low carb dry toasted bagel I have in the morning and my evenings are a challenge. I have had no meat this week at all, but have had a little cheese. I think I am doing ok and am working on giving up one thing at a time. It seems to still be a healthy way to eat with all the fruits and veggies and beans, etc that you take in even if you don't reach the pound of cooked and raw veggies a day that he recommends.

I have/am. Though I'm not following it very strictly. Also, really hard to eat all of that food. But I do find that I am enjoying the taste of fruit and veggies more. Enjoying the plan. Definitely a lifestyle change for me, but I still treat myself to my favorite cravings.0

I am curious as to whether you are seeing weight loss? I haven't been as good as I should but I do enjoy all the fruits and veggies. I make a big pot of soup and have that for lunch every day and I have a big salad for dinner but I have an veggie omelette for breakfast with some lowfat cheese.0 -
When I first started dropped 15 pounds in three weeks, then I hit a plateau. I never really stopped doing it, but did begin including some not so good items. Gained about 5 pounds back, but attribute 3 to 4 of water weight (way more salty foods). I started again when I signed up with MFP, dropped ten pounds in about two weeks. Then again, some not so good items. As you can see, I am at about 9 pounds now. I went up 5 pounds and now coming back down. Still, I again attribute it to high salt intake and I started exercising (30 day shred). I'm headed back down again. I am losing inches though even when the weight stalls.
Overall I love it. I feel good because I am eating healthier. And even though I might eat some processed items, I make sure I don't skimp on my healthy foods. I find it very difficult to eat the amount of food he reccommends. But as long as I am full, I am OK. I am trying to make this a lifestyle thing, so I am not interested in eliminating anything from my diet for good. I just make sure I eat what I should first, then if I still hve a craving I continue, but try to keep it in moderation.
SN: I was already a vegetarian for almost 20 years (started eating seafood again last year), so it wasn't difficult for me, as I didn't have to give up a lot. I like being able to eat what I want and not count calories. Turth is, if you eat what he reccomends, you really won't crave much else.I also have Fibromyalgia and eating healthy is in my best interest. I feel it when I don't. (like now-- two days of too much candy).
How long have you been doing it? What do you struggle with?0 -
I have been tranisitioning for a couple of weeks, trying to figure it out. It's not easy when you start that's for sure. I work out with a trainer 2x's a week and box 1 - 2 times a week so I am really use to eating 6 meals a day (sometimes they are all big meals!) so his instructions of only eat 3 x's a day doesn't go with what I am used to. I know he says to eat as much as you want at each meal, if you want to eat half a cantaloupe then eat it but I am hungry again in a couple of hours. I think that is the hardest part for me. I have slowly been moving away from meat, I don't eat much fish but I do like my chicken on my salad at night. so I am trying to stick to his 2 ozs of chicken rule. I do eat a lot of veggies both raw and cooked but my sweet tooth seems to rear it's ugly head every day! And I do eat fruit, but it doesn't seem to help much when I want a reeses cup. :sad:0

Cravings can be harsh. I swear I have been on a binge for a week. Just try to keep it in moderation. When you log your food it keeps you accountable and aware. I am more following the maintenance plan than the diet plan. My goal is to be healthier. I figure if ou eat healthy and exercise, everything will fall into place. The refined and process food do really throw a wrench in the process though. It is amazing how processed almost everything is. If you are not buying it raw and making it yourself, chances are it has been through some abnormal process with one of chemicals in it, even "healthy" cereal. #sigh0
