Does anyone incorperate use of a steam room in their weight loss. I read a few yrs ago in a health magazine that 10 min in a steam is equal to 5 min on a bike. Has anyone else heard of this? My health club has one and I love using it, I know my pulse is over 100 when im in there, so I know I am buring extra calories, just not sure how many.

A steam room or dry sauna really has no health benefit other than relaxing after a hard workout. You cannot, and will not ever, get fit by sitting on your butt in a steam room.

Don't get me wrong though, steam rooms or dry saunas are fantastic for recovery after a workout. But that's really the only thing they provide.

I only use the sauna or steam room as a reward for a hard workout.

I use the dry sauna and steam room pretty regularly. I am really skeptical of claims that it is equivalent to exercise. It is good for recovery, and from what I have read it can stress your system and have an effect of metabolism, if you use (These studies were for the dry sauna) it regularly.
  • i just like going in there on cold mornings for about 10-15 minutes before i go do my workout. Feels so good

    No health benefits.

It will make you warm and toasty, but will also dehydrate you.
