I've seen a significant difference in my strength in the 6 weeks I've been doing it, and while the scale hasn't moved much (okay, it went upward for a while, and then finally back down), my posture is different and people have commented on how I look. I'm tracking my measurements on a monthly basis and taking pictures because I think it will be interesting to see the progression over 6 months of workouts.0

I did it for almost two months. I hated it. it got to the point where i would do it maybe once a week. i found all sorts of excuses not to go. I didnt notice that much of a difference in either strength or weight loss. I started a different program three weeks ago and i love it so much more and am seeing fantastic results. So for me New Rules was a total failure. But based on the posts i've seen on MFP everyone else really loved it. Which is why i started with the book in the first place. lol Different strokes for different folks I guess.
ETA i should clarify and tell you guys that i LOVE weightlifting. It's my favourite part of gym time. So for me to hate a program is unusual. I love picking up heavy things and putting them down. lol0 -
Was hoping someone would post something on this topic. I am getting ready to start lifting for the first time in my life at the ripe age of 51! Need all the "rules" or tips I can get (other than using my wonderful lifting coach of Stevll). Thanks for posting on this topic!0

I am doing the Jamie Eason program called Live Fit posted on bodybuilding.com. with some modifications. for the first month there's no cardio because she wants to concentrate on building muscles, fair enough, but i have another 100 lbs to go, i'm not giving up my cardio. lol also my menu is not exactly like hers but it's close. i just don't want to mess with what's working right now. Since i started her program I'm losing about 3 lbs a week, this week i've lost 4 lbs. and that's total weight. last week my scale showed 3.5 lbs lost. but when i did the bodyfat percentage it was actually 5 lbs of fat lost and 1.5 lbs of lean body mass gained.0

that Jamie Eason one sounds quite good as well then, I'm only wanting to lose about 14lbs so I think by strength training I'll notice a lot more difference.....really wanting a 6 pack!0

I lost 6 inches total in 6 weeks, so the difference is phenomenal. My weight stayed the same. Pretty sure all my lost was body fat.0

yeah ive had a loko at the jamie eason one.....the nutrition part looks quite strict. did you follow that completely?0

I dont follow it exactly, but i eat the same way, 5 meals a day, lean chicken and fish, no processed food. if you want abs, your nutrition has to be very strict. you can do all the ab exercises you want but if you don't burn off that fat overlaying the muscles, they'll never show. I average about 1500 to 1800 cals a day and i dont eat back my exercise calories unless i'm absolutely starving which is hardly ever. you can try both and see which is more comfortable for you. New Rules or Jamie Eason. if something doesn't work then you can change it. nobody says you have to stick with a program once you pick it.. lol0
