And, boy, my body is not happy with me. Yesterday, I became Zumba certified and today I, hopefully (pending test results), became Turbo Kick certified.

It was a lot of fun and I met a ton of really great - and interesting - people. Now, I'm going to look into getting ACE or AFAA certified. I'm ready to get my fitness career started!!

Hey, well done! Did you do alot of zumba classes and turbo kick before you took the certificate courses? Do you have group fitness and personal trainer fitness courses in the US? We call them cert III and cert IV in Oz.

Pammy, one thing my friend told me when I told her the same thing (I'm waiting until I get to my goal weight) is that I shouldn't wait until then. Get certified before I'm there and by the time I practice and get comfortable enough to teach, I should be at my goal weight. It makes total sense because, trust me, unless you have experience doing group fitness, you're going to need to do a lot of prep and tons of practice!! So, it's something to consider. Good luck to you!!

Beauty, I haven't heard of TAFE. I admit that I started wanting to teach fitness only knowing Zumba. So, I still have A LOT of learning to do. I accepted your request.

Thanks, manjin! I did A LOT of Zumba prior to cert. TK -- I never took a TK class; I only did TurboFire. Yes, there are group fitness and personal training certs too. Those are done through groups like ACE and AFAA here in the U.S.

Better yet, when before I became a kickboxing instructor, I went to several classes with different instructors and observed how they flowed their classes. As a veteran kickboxing instructor (I've been instructing kickboxing since '99) I don't just stand in front through out class. I walk the class and correct any form issues and also to provide individual motivation. What most instructors fail to realize is that the class is for the members and NOT for you. So don't make it too hard, nor too easy. Personally I don't use instruction as my workout, I do my own workout on my on.

Thank you for the tip, ninerbuff!! My presenter today did stress the importance of learning how to read your class and adjusting the workout to fit them. I do plan on taking some TK classes before I even consider seriously inquiring about leading my own class(es). Thanks again!

Well you'll have a mixture of hard, moderate and low intensity, so it's important to know modified versions of all the moves you instruct. Especially in kickboxing.
