I'd say this: If you are comfortable wearing it out to grocery shop in (and see someone that you know), wear it to the gym.... That to me is a good rule of thumb.

I'm assuming you mean thick tights or leggings? (as in "not see-through"). I don't see why not. I've been wearing leggins because they are the only thing that fits right to keep my thighs from rubbing. And I wore them at 272lbs...I figure if nobody wants to look at my fat *kitten* in tight pants they can look the other way. lol

Your gym will have a dress code, so let that guide you. I am personally a big fan of Skins, you can get them in mid thigh or ankle length and they are designed for excercising in. They aren't cheap though, but they iron out all the lumps and bumps so no matter what size you are they make your butt look great!!

Personally, I vote against it. Yoga pants are great though :)

Another vote for yoga pants- They are great & I bought 2 pair at Sam's Club for only $11- Not sure where you're from but surely you could find some for kind of cheap

But I guess it depends on what kind of tights you are planning on wearing

Just make sure theydon't look like this:

OMG! I'm going out on a limb here to say that the original poster would not go anywhere looking like this.

Wear what's comfortable and reasonable - it's not a fashion contest. However, I found some great work out gear at JCP on sale a few months ago...

    Love this so much!

I say wear the tights. Add shorts, leg warmers and 80's style shirt for funsies.

"work out clothes" are made of material to wick sweat and keep oder down. I wear the under armor tights and am overweight, i do feel self conscious sometimes though

ohhh the only person who is going to care what you wear is you. Unless of course you are like the guy at my old gym that wore a speedo swimsuit to work out in. ugh. I used to skip machines if I knew he had been on there!!!
