Going Under for Breast Augmentation Surgery. SCARED!!

Im having my breast augmentation on Friday and im SO scared about going under or being put to sleep and what the pain might be like. I have only been put under once and that was for wisdom teeth surgery. They stuck the IV in my arm and told me to count back and I dont remember going past 10 lol.

Im having the classic fears such as: What if I wake-up during surgery and feel it all but cant do anything about it? What if I don't wake-up at all?? What if I cannot take the pain afterwards (i live alone while my hubs is in Afghanistan)?

Nevertheless, Im pretty darn excited and ready for surgery, but Im just so scared of what to expect, fear of the unknown. Ive learned about all this in nursing school and how to deal with and prep patients mentally for surgery, but when it is actually happening to you, its sooo different lol.

Im documenting my whole breast augmentation on my blog to show other women (who might be considering this surgery) what its like, the real deal. So I want to be completely honest about everything.

But my question to you ladies-those who have undergone a breast implantation or any surgery I guess, what is the surgery (before and after) process like? Was it long before you were healed and felt better?

I am planning on going back to work 3 days later. HA. Yeah I know. Im too ambitious. Luckily, at my nursing job that I have now, i get to sit on a computer in my office all day. No lifting or hard work whatsoever. Easy stuff.

On a side note, have you talked to your husband about it? I'm curious. It might be fun to it be a surprise. "Look honey, new boob!"

Well, I can sorta relate, because 20 years ago I had a breast reduction!!!! Totally different situation and the technology in your surgery is bound to be radically different from what I went through, but I was actually in the hospital for two days afterward. It was summer and I was in college, so I didn't have to do much which is good because there's no way I could have gone back to school that soon (I think I had a month before going back) but I healed up pretty quickly and it was the best thing I did. I was so large that my spine was curving already and after losing 5.5 pounds off the front, my posture improved and I even stood taller (which is nice since I'm 5'2"!!!).

Good luck, I don't understand wanting bigger ones, I still think mine are pretty big (but I'm happy) but I do understand not being satisfied with your body. Take it easy, if you're sitting at a desk you may be alright, but do NOT overdo it and follow the doctor's advice as to when to start exercising and stuff.

Oh, and the coming out of the anesthesia was a little rough, but nothing horrible. Going under was great... didn't even realize it happened!!!!! Woke up feeling like there was an elephant on my chest, but that didn't last very long (a few days). Just keeping it real!

Yes he knows lol. He is soooooooooooo excited. It was part his idea. But I have wanted one for a few years now. But when I dropped the 35lbs, what little boobs I had deflated and I was so mad.

This isn't from personal experience, but I was the one there taking care of the person the whole time:

Christmas last year, my little sister (17!) had a "breast augmentation", but it was to reconstruct one of her breasts that was mal-formed. To give you an idea of how bad it was, insurance paid for it. It was horrible, really hurt her confidence, and was the one thing she hated about herself. It was so bad. But anyway, her surgery took longer than normal (5 hours, normal just breast implants take like 1 - 2 I believe). We realized one crucial mistake after she woke up. We had made her wear a button up shirt,obviously, but she wore jeans to the hospital. Bad idea, she should have worn sweats or something. She was so out of it, just yelling about how she wanted chapstick.For the first 3 - 4 days her breasts REALLY hurt her, the act of leaning up/down was the worst part. Then for about 3 weeks after she was still extremely sore and with limited motion.

I say all that, to tell you, it's all because of her weird reconstruction she had done. It will NOT be as bad with you since you're just having implants done. So I wouldn't worry as much My aunt had them done on a Friday and was back at work on Monday, with limited soreness. Haha.

I have never had surgery so this is purely from what I know about my friend that had a breast augmentation surgery. She's in grad school, so she had the surgery on a Friday and was back at school on Wednesday or Thursday, but she said she was still sore. This may or not help but thought I'd throw it out there lol

I am sure you will be just fine. The upgrades in the ways they handle the anesthesia today are much better than 32 years ago when I had my breast reduced from H to D. I am not a preson that feels much pain so I was lucky and back to work within a few days. I do not take pain medication once out of hte hospital, and for me that helps to not masked the situration and allows me to heal faster, BUT that is purely me!! I have had many surgeries and the last one was a tummy tuck in 2009 equally not that painful for me,

Follow your post op instructions ot the letter, and I am sure you will do just fine. I too hate the part of going under, but I have never had any issues other than being sick upon waking up(years ago) but the improvements in the drugs used today are fine and that seems to be no longer an issue.

Don't jump the gun and go back too early. Surgery requires healing. This all involves pain and likely pain medication. 3 days sounds to me like you are pushing it. I mean, this isn't a simple colonoscopy! LOL

For your own sake and the sake of your job, don't push yourself.

I've had a few different surgeries in my time. I really wouldn't worry about waking up during. The anesthesiologist will stay and monitor you throughout the procedure.

Its just a clinic. I work for the Air Force. They are going to take care of me while Im at work lol. That way I can be there and still get paid.. saving my leave for my husband when he gets home from overseas. Im not dealing with critical patients here. just check ups.

i had mine done 3 years ago (went from an A-D) and i'd do it again in a heartbeat. i had no real problems, day 5 was way worse than day 1 though i remember! i was just so SORE then! i couldn't do anything that required me to use my pec muscles (such as trying to open a jar type movement). still to this day i don't like ANY type of chest exercise and avoid it at all cost (it doesn't hurt, it just feels... gross and wrong). i had just IV sedation, not general anesthesia so i felt fine when i woke up.

and yes wear sweatpants. and be prepared to not even be able to pull down/up your pants. my husband had to help me the first 3 days! i couldn't open a car door let alone go to the bathroom alone. lol!

You will be fine! My sorority sister is a wimp for pain (she had to stop in the middle of her back tattoo..so now she has a half done tattoo on her lol) but she got implants after she had her daughter and her breasts were not the same. She had the implants mid week and was out eating a restaurant with her family on a Friday. Good luck!
