I have been reading and I was wondering what I should be eating before and after a workout.... I know protein but I'm not sure how much? I'm just starting out and I'm not sure exactly what to do..... Also what are some low cal high protein snacks that are easy to pack for work lunches? Also does anyone have any idea how to use protein powder in smoothies (no raw eggs) and if I should even be using protein powder..... Thanks for any advice/tips!!

I don't eat before I workout because I go right after work. If I feel slightly hunger I'll grab a protein bar, which feels me up. But I do eat after because I'm normally hungry the=) I used a light vanilla protein powder (from GNC), then I add lowfat vanilla yogurt and silk soy milk. Some people use fresh fruit but I'm lazy and want something I can put together quick.

That sounds really good... I just got kind of overwhelmed trying to pick a powder out and so I was unsure.... I will look online that way I have in mind what I want when I head to GNC.
  • For protein powder you have to be cautious, a lot of them are loaded with fillers. The "lightest" protein in my opinion would be Optimum nutrition whey. GNC products are typically overpriced and fatty.

I use nonfat greek yogurt whey and some sort of fruit, and it makes for some awesome smoothies.
  • Well, if you didnt have a particularly heavy lift day or a long workout then you will probably be fine with a simple glass of milk.

Protein powders are great but not necessary in the slightest. You'd do better with 2 hardboiled eggs. Or 1oz nuts and a string cheese.

You don't have to use supplements at all to properly fuel your body. Everything you need can be found in nature :)

Love the advice.... and eggs, cheese, nuts, and such are probably all cheaper than a big jar of powder. Thanks y'all :)

I usually do not eat before woking out because it upsets my stomach unless I am going for a run. In that case I will have a protein shake or a Shakeology. After a workout since I work out before work usually I will eat breakfast :)

I do fasted cardio, no meal for at least 4 hours before cardio. On weight training days, I eat a small meal about 2 hours before.
