Odd Weight Loss Fluctuations......or is it?

I am going to try and explain my dilemma the best I can and hope I make sense without too much rambling. I have noticed for the past few months that I am losing weight in a very odd way......OR maybe it's normal and I just don't know it. I will lose like 4 lbs one week and then for the never SEVERAL weeks I will lose like 0.2, 0.4, maybe 1 whole lb if I am lucky.......then after a few weeks I will lose 3 to 4 lbs......I am consistently eating healthy and exercising. I am exercising, in general, at least 5 days per week or more sometimes. I usually do four days of cardio that usually consists of an hour of target heart rate cardio and also do 5 solid days of strength or more. I am mixing it all up often so my body doesn't become accustomed just as I have been advised. I am eating a well balanced diet consisting of lean protein, veggies, fruit, whole grains and healthy fats....I am trying to work on watchinf my sugar and sodium better and am drinking more than the required amount of water.

I know when I start a new workout routine, like when i started the 30 Day Shred and now that I have started Ripped in 30, I tend to hang on to the weight for a couple weeks b/c my muscles are tender and possibly and likely holding on to some water, but it seems odd to me that I will lose a significant amount and then go several weeks losing NOTHING or next to nothing. what am I missing? What am i doing wrong? I am still a GOOD 30 to 40 lbs above the target weight for my height so I would think I would still be losing at a fairly rapid rate. I am eating SOME of my exercise calories back but not all of them because I don't have a heart rate monitor to tell me exactly what i am burning so on the off chance MFPs calculations are off, I don't want to be eating too much. I know I need to get one and I will when I am able........this just seems odd to me. Advice? Explainations? Anyone?

I hope I haven't rambled too much! =)

Sounds normal to me! I found weight loss to be very inconsistent. I had 30 pounds total to lose and some weeks I lost 2 pounds, others nothing, then everywhere in between. When I averaged out my weekly losses (I was concerned too!) it generally evened out to 1 pound/week losses. As long as the general trend is downward, you are doing well!

Sorry, the same thing happens to me. I like to look at the last 3-6 months to really see how far I've come. Seems like I don't make any changes in food or exercise and all of a sudden a nice big loss, then nothing for several weeks (or tiny losses, or even a small gain). When I look back I see I'm down 10 pounds in 2 months, but it doesn't seem like it!!!!

    Good luck!

That's how my weight comes off a lot of times. Sometimes it seems like I haven't lost in a few weeks but when I go back and look at the last 4 weeks or so, I can see I've lost 5 or 6 lbs, I just lost it all in the same week or 2 and then lost almost nothing for 2 weeks.
