Too much sugar

Almost every day I go over my recommended amount for sugar, in fact I can't remember the last time I didn't. However almost all of what I eat that contributes to it is fruit, I eat a lot of it. Is it really so bad if I am just going over with fruit sugars and not the sugars in processed foods?

Google the difference between fructose and sucrose and make a decision for your self based on what you read. I had the same question and will not be counting fruit sugars. hth

I'm almost always over in sugar too. Normally, for me it comes from fruits or dairy. I've been told that natural sugars aren't as bad as the kind we add in processed foods but sugar is still sugar. I make it a goal to limit the fruits to 2 servings per day and for those fruits to be low glycemic like pears and berries. It is a little demotivating to see the red numbers under sugar every day but it also helps me to stay in check. That number really skyrockets if you have a cookie or a starbucks latte.

For me, personally, when trying to lose weight and get more fit, I try to limit to two fruits a day. Better to pick ones that are naturally lower in sugar also (berries are great). But even with two servings of fruit, I go over my "24 grams of sugar" a day...I don't stress about it if the sugar is mainly coming from that...but when I'm watching myself, I try not to eat too many processed foods.

  • I would replace one of your servings of fruit for a vegetable and see if that helps. All fruit is not created equal. Tangerines, cherries, grapes, pomegranates, mangos, figs, and bananas are very high in sugar. Instead I would try eating lemons, limes, rhubarb, rasberries, apples, guavas, apricots, and grapefruits ... all very low in sugar. Hope this helps!
